This study sought to investigate whether modulation of cortical excitability of the gluteal musculature, via tDCS paired with exercise, will reduce the amount the knee caves in during functional tasks in individuals with PFP. The objective is the explore if having tDCS target the area of the brain controlling hip muscles, when paired with exercise, will be more effective in reducing the amount the knee caves in for individuals with PFP versus those who receive exercise alone as their treatment. The aim is to contribute our findings to the growing knowledge in this area in order to help establish the possibility, and feasibility, of its use in clinical settings to strengthen traditional treatments for this patient population. This observational study involves ADHF patients at two sites in the United States and Germany. After informed consent and screening assessments, participants will perform daily voice recordings during their hospital stay, from admission until discharge. Alongside voice data, additional clinical information such as left ventricular ejection fraction, NTpro-BNP levels, and ECG-data will be collected for comprehensive analysis. The study's goal is to identify voice-based indicators of heart failure progression, with the potential to enhance remote monitoring and self-management strategies for heart failure patients. Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a major public health concern, particularly among older adults (OAs) ≥ 65 years of age. Each year in the United States, TBI results in over 600,000 emergency department visits and hospitalizations among OAs. Mild TBI (mTBI) accounts for 80% of all TBI in OAs and is quite understudied in this rapidly growing population. mTBI, is mild in name only, as it can result in dysfunction in multiple cognitive domains, including attention, processing speed, executive functioning and memory and has been shown to be associated with progressive brain atrophy and increased susceptibility to neurodegenerative disorders. Cognitive rehabilitation therapy is an evidence-based approach that can successfully improve cognitive impairment following TBI. Virtual reality (VR) is emerging as a technology that can assess cognitive impairment and provide a neurorehabilitation modality (NRM) to improve cognitive decline post TBI. Not only can VR provide a variety of environments like those encountered in real life and be adapted to varying levels and types of cognitive disability, but it can also be used safely in a patient's home with minimal equipment. Yet, despite the promise of cognitive rehabilitation using VR among OAs, very few studies to date have assessed the efficacy of VR cognitive rehabilitation in TBI. The aim of this study is to assess the effect and collect data on the efficacy and feasibility of a virtual reality application as a neurorehabilitation modality on executive functioning (attention, immediate memory, and visual-spatial skills) in OAs with mTBI. This study is being done to see if nitrous oxide during vasectomy decreases pain and anxiety, and also assess whether patients have better satisfaction when they control their own level of nitrous oxide during the procedure. If we find that patients experience less pain or anxiety with nitrous oxide, it could be suggested that self-adjusted nitrous oxide (SANO) may be a useful tool for improving experience of care during vasectomy. This is a single institution phase II randomized study evaluating the potential benefits of a supplement, tart cherry juice at high- versus low-doses, to prevent taxane induced peripheral neuropathy in breast and ovarian cancer patients undergoing paclitaxel chemotherapy. Directly reinforcing abstinence from alcohol with monetary incentives is an effective treatment for alcohol dependence, but barriers in obtaining frequent, verified biochemical measures of abstinence limit the dissemination of this treatment approach. The goal of this study is to use technological advancements to remotely, accurately, and securely monitor alcohol use with a newly developed smartphone app and breathalyzer. This treatment approach has the potential to facilitate the dissemination of an effective, evidence-based treatment for alcohol dependence to a broader population whose treatment needs are not currently being adequately met. Ventilated pediatric patients are frequently over-sedated and the majority suffer from delirium, a form of acute brain dysfunction that is an independent predictor of increased risk of dying, length of stay, and costs. Universally prescribed sedative medications-the GABA-ergic benzodiazepines-worsen this brain organ dysfunction and independently prolong duration of ventilation and ICU stay, and the available alternative sedation regimen using dexmedetomidine, an alpha-2 agonist, has been shown to be superior to benzodiazepines in adults, and may mechanistically impact outcomes through positive effects on innate immunity, bacterial clearance, apoptosis, cognition and delirium. The mini-MENDS trial will compare dexmedetomidine and midazolam, and determine the best sedative medication to reduce delirium and improve duration of ventilation, and functional, psychiatric, and cognitive recovery in our most vulnerable patients-survivors of pediatric critical illness.
