Schizophrenia is a severe psychotic illness of unknown cause that affects 1% of the population worldwide. Currently, there is no diagnostic test for schizophrenia. Instead, the diagnosis is typically established through a psychiatric interview of the patient, who is evaluated against a set of established criteria of signs and symptoms. It can take many months to years to establish a diagnosis of schizophrenia and achieve an appropriate treatment regimen to attain resolution of the patient's symptoms. This process is particularly challenging in areas of limited access to specialists a problem not only in third world countries and rural regions, but throughout the United States where there can be long waits to obtain an appointment with a psychiatrist. The present research experiment investigates a potential novel method for diagnosing schizophrenia. The overall objective of the study is to test the hypothesis that patients with schizophrenia will have a heightened tolerance to the sedating effects of anti-psychotic medications, which will be reflected in differences in their electroencephalogram (EEG) when compared to healthy normal controls. The investigators expect that the schizophrenia patients will score on the "more alert" and "less sleepy" ends of these scales, and that the normal control subjects will show the opposite response. A patient that fails to become sedated or experience the sleepiness side effects, typically caused by the anti-psychotic medication, may support the existing diagnosis of schizophrenia. Measures of the subjects' level of sedation that are found to correlate significantly with EEG response and diagnosis will be used to create a diagnostic test. This simple and inexpensive test will consist of a single dosage of anti-psychotic medication, and a rapid assessment tool with scores that have a high degree of predictive validity for the diagnosis of schizophrenia. This is a study to determine the safety, efficacy, and tolerability of taking away the anti-rejection medicine, tacrolimus, in liver transplant recipients in conjunction with everolimus monotherapy to preserve renal function. Two hundred - seventy (270) subjects will be randomized 2:1 into one of two groups between 2-3 months post-transplant. In this clinical trial, symptom monitoring (interactive voice response \[IVR\] is compared to automated telephone symptom management \[ATSM\] and telephone interpersonal counseling \[TIPC\]) for reducing symptom burden and psychological distress (depressive and anxiety symptoms) among people receiving oral anti-cancer treatment. Symptoms are the number one driver of treatment interruptions and unscheduled health services use. To reduce the risk of these events, symptom monitoring and management are necessary. However, these services are not implemented routinely, especially in the community oncology settings. Further, depressive and anxiety symptoms are a key barrier to enacting symptom self-management strategies. IVR is a form of symptom monitoring where patients, when called, enter their symptom ratings over the phone. Their symptom summary is sent to their provider, and patients may be advised to reach out to their oncology provider, based on their symptoms. The ATSM intervention combines IVR assessments with a Symptom Management and Survivorship educational handbook with self-management strategies. Patients receiving ATSM enter their symptom ratings over the phone and have their symptoms reported to their provider, but patients are also directed to the handbook for strategies to manage elevated symptoms. Patients receiving ATSM who report being anxious, discouraged, or sad will also receive TIPC, which targets psychological distress and its connection to social support and interpersonal communication. Information gathered from this study may help researchers learn more about the best ways to manage patient symptoms and improve patient outcomes. Read Less

The goal of this pivotal clinical trial is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the SUI-100 device for the treatment of mild-to-moderate stress urinary incontinence (SUI) in females aged 22-70 years. The main questions this study aims to answer are: 1. Does treatment with the SUI-100 device reduce SUI symptoms, as measured by urine leakage. 2. Is the device safe and effective compared to the sham group? Participants will: 1. Be randomly assigned to an active or sham control group in a blinded, multicenter study. 2. Attend treatment visits during the Treatment Phase, with SUI assessments conducted at specific intervals. 3. Enter a 3-month, treatment-free follow-up phase, with SUI assessment. 4. Proceed to three monthly maintenance treatments, followed by a final SUI assessment at study exit. The total study duration will last approximately 18 months, with each individual's participation lasting approximately 6-8 months.
