Previous motion analysis studies have demonstrated excellent ability to distinguish subtle differences in gait between normal subjects and those suffering from arthritis. With proper techniques and analysis differences between osteoarthritis patient groups can be distinguished. Previous research has indicated that subjects who received a single-radius design total knee replacement have superior gait performance that those who received a multi-radius design total knee replacement. The DJO Global Empowr PS Knee System is a single-radius lateral pivot design. This design should achieve reproducible more natural knee function and improved patient outcomes and satisfaction. A motion analysis laboratory will be used to collect gait data from patients who are going to receive a Empowr PS knee device and also from age-matched control subjects. These data will be compared with data previously collected from patients who received Stryker Triathlon devices, Biomet Vanguard devices and age-matched healthy control subjects. Read Less

This is a comparative effectiveness study of two pragmatic models aiming to introduce palliative care for end stage liver disease patients. The 2 comparators are: Model 1: Consultative Palliative Care (i.e. direct access to Palliative Care provider), Model 2: Trained Hepatologist- led PC intervention (i.e. a hepatologist will receive formal training to deliver Palliative Care services) Primary Outcome: The change in quality of life from baseline to 3 months post enrollment as assessed by FACT-Hep (Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy- Hepatobiliary). 14 Clinical Centers across US are recruited to participate in this study. Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) of chronic total occlusions (CTOs) is increasingly being performed in patients with advanced coronary artery disease, but there is limited information on the techniques utilized and the procedural outcomes. The goal of this multicenter, investigator initiated registry is to collect information on treatment strategies and outcomes of consecutive patients undergoing CTO PCI among various participating centers. The information collected will be used to determine the frequency of CTO PCI performed at the participating sites and examine the procedural strategies utilized, and the procedural (both immediate and during follow-up) outcomes. Schizophrenia is a severe psychotic illness of unknown cause that affects 1% of the population worldwide. Currently, there is no diagnostic test for schizophrenia. Instead, the diagnosis is typically established through a psychiatric interview of the patient, who is evaluated against a set of established criteria of signs and symptoms. It can take many months to years to establish a diagnosis of schizophrenia and achieve an appropriate treatment regimen to attain resolution of the patient's symptoms. This process is particularly challenging in areas of limited access to specialists a problem not only in third world countries and rural regions, but throughout the United States where there can be long waits to obtain an appointment with a psychiatrist. The present research experiment investigates a potential novel method for diagnosing schizophrenia. The overall objective of the study is to test the hypothesis that patients with schizophrenia will have a heightened tolerance to the sedating effects of anti-psychotic medications, which will be reflected in differences in their electroencephalogram (EEG) when compared to healthy normal controls. The investigators expect that the schizophrenia patients will score on the "more alert" and "less sleepy" ends of these scales, and that the normal control subjects will show the opposite response. A patient that fails to become sedated or experience the sleepiness side effects, typically caused by the anti-psychotic medication, may support the existing diagnosis of schizophrenia. Measures of the subjects' level of sedation that are found to correlate significantly with EEG response and diagnosis will be used to create a diagnostic test. This simple and inexpensive test will consist of a single dosage of anti-psychotic medication, and a rapid assessment tool with scores that have a high degree of predictive validity for the diagnosis of schizophrenia. This is a multi-center, randomized, triple-blind, placebo-controlled (RCT) study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Dapsone in older adults, and/or in adult patients (≥40yrs of age) with at least one high-risk comorbidity, among those with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection. 3000 infected patients diagnosed with COVID-19, non-hospitalized at the time of enrollment, meeting all inclusion and no exclusion criteria will be randomized (1:1 allocation ratio) to receive either Dapsone or placebo tablets for 21 days, and will be followed up for 7 days after treatment termination for outcome assessment and up to 30 days for safety monitoring. The purpose of this study is to assess the effectiveness of the visual cues of a wearable device in preventing freezing of gait (FOG) in those with PD.The aim is to investigate the impact of laser shoe attachments on gait in single and dual-tasking scenarios, as well as "real-world" mobility scenarios, in people with PD who freeze. For this study, participants will wear sensors on their feet, hips, chest, and head to show stride length, foot angle, and foot height, and head position during different gait assessments. The patients will do the gait assessments without the laser shoes and with the laser shoes to determine how the laser shoes affect freezing of gait. The gait assessments include having the patient complete a two minute walk, two minute walk with another task (reciting every other letter of the alphabet), obstacle course, obstacle course with another task (reciting every other letter of the alphabet), and quickly turning in place. The assessments are activities that are performed in everyday activities so there are no risks associated with these requested tasks. These activities will be done in a lab at the Phoenix Biomedical Campus. Safety for the participants will be monitored by placing a belt around the waist of the participant with a member of the research personnel close by in case the participant demonstrated a shift in their balance. The research member can use the belt to provide stability and secure the participant, preventing them from further loss of balance. Moreover, three different activities of daily living (ADL's) will be assessed with and without the laser shoes in a simulated apartment environment located at the Phoenix Biomedical campus. The ADL's include walking from the bed to the kitchen, walking from the living room to the kitchen and making tea in the microwave, and answering the door. The activities to be done in the apartment setting will be video-recorded and analyzed. Some participants will be given the laser shoes to take home and use for one week. The same protocol explained above will be used to assess freezing of gait after this one week in those selected participants. To assess retention of improvements, the participants who took the laser shoes home will also be given the same protocol two days later (after not having used the laser shoes during that time). Participants will also complete surveys for quality of life, freezing and gait and cognitive function. A standard test for balance will also be conducted. Read Less

The MyDRUG study is a type of Precision Medicine trial to treat patients with drugs targeted to affect specific genes that are mutated as part of the disease. Mutations in genes can lead to uncontrolled cell growth and cancer. Patients with a greater than 25% mutation to any of the following genes; CDKN2C, FGFR3, KRAS, NRAS, BRAF V600E, IDH2 or T(11;14) can be enrolled to one of the treatment arms. These arms have treatments specifically directed to the mutated genes. Patients that do not have a greater than 25% mutation to the genes listed can be enrolled to a non-actionable treatment arm. The genetic sequencing of the patient's tumor is required via enrollment to the MMRF002 study: Clinical-grade Molecular Profiling of Patients with Multiple Myeloma and Related Plasma Cell Malignancies.
