Doxycycline Intervention for Bacterial STI ChemoprOphylaxis (DISCO)
Recruiting
There is a growing epidemic of the bacterial sexually transmitted infections (STIs) syphilis, chlamydia and gonorrhea worldwide; similarly concerning trends have been noted in Canada, where increases of over 160% have been seen in bacterial STIs over the last decade. In Canada, gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (gbMSM) - including those living with HIV - are disproportionately impacted by bacterial STIs5,6These dramatic increases in bacterial STIs, the potential development of s... Inguinal Node Sparing Radiotherapy For Patients With Early Stage Anal Cancer
Recruiting
The purpose of this study is to see whether avoiding preventative radiation to the groin in patients with normal sentinel node biopsy and PET-CT, is at least as effective treating cancer as giving preventative radiation to the groin for patients with anal canal cancer. The investigators also want to know if avoiding radiation to the groin will cause fewer side effects and better quality of life

Time Restricted Eating and Cardiac Rehabilitation
Recruiting
This study will use a form of intermittent fasting called time-restricted eating (TRE) where individuals consume ad libitum energy intake within a set window of time, commonly 8 hours, which induces a fasting window of 16 hours per day (i.e., 16:8 TRE). TRE could be an effective addition to cardiac rehabilitation as it has demonstrated cardiovascular health benefits and potential for synergy when combined with exercise training. This study will determine if TRE is a feasible and safe nutrition i... Read More

Feasibility of High-Intensity Interval Nordic Walking in Patients With Coronary Artery Disease
Recruiting
Coronary revascularization, such as heart bypass surgery (CABG) and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI \[inserting a stent to open up blood vessels\]) improve survival for people with coronary artery disease. Yet, many patients suffer from poor physical and mental health after coronary revascularization. Traditional cardiac rehabilitation involving moderate-to-vigorous intensity continuous training (MICT) improves physical and mental health. However, alternative exercise programs, such as h... Effects of Antipsychotics on Brain Insulin Action in Females
Recruiting
Females treated with antipsychotics have higher rates of comorbid metabolic syndrome than males. Despite this, females have historically been excluded from many mechanistic studies due to confounding effects of menstrual cycles. Recent evidence suggests that brain insulin resistance may be an underlying mechanism through which antipsychotics may exert their metabolic side effects. This study seeks to investigate how brain insulin action differs in females according to their menstrual cycle phase... Read More

Ossiview Normative Mobility Data Collection Protocol
Recruiting
The goal of this observational study is to learn about the sound-induced vibration level of certain structures in the middle ear in the normal-hearing population. The targeted structures are part of a chain of structures responsible for conducting sound within the auditory system and so their ability to vibrate normally in response to sound is relevant to the diagnosis of conductive hearing loss. The main questions the study aims to answer are: * What are the mean and variance of the normal so... Read More

Early Integration of Palliative and Supportive Care in Cellular Therapy
Recruiting
Research has shown that early palliative care in cancer care is associated with improved symptom management, better prognostic understanding, improved quality of life for patients and family caregivers, and even improved survival. Yet, in spite of the proven benefits of integration of palliative care in oncology, it has been well established that patients with hematologic malignancies and those undergoing cellular therapy (hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) and chimeric antigen recep... Can Brief Exposure to Hyperoxia Improve Function After Chronic Spinal Cord Injury?
Recruiting
This proof-of-principle study will determine if breathing an increased concentration of oxygen above the concentration in normal room air results in changes in the sensory and motor function in people with subacute or chronic, severe spinal cord injury (SCI).

Fecal Microbiota Translantation (FMT) to Reduce Inflammation in PLWH: The Gutsy Pilot Study
Recruiting
The goal of this randomized, single blind, two-armed pilot study is to assess the efficacy of FMT in reducing gut mucosal and systemic inflammation in ART-treated people living with HIV with low CD4/CD8 ratio. The main questions it aims to answer are: •Is there a change in the gut permeability among participants taking FMT compared to placebo? • Has inflammation been reduced by the use of FMT? Ten participants will be randomized to receive FMT in capsules, and another 10 participants will receiv... Read More

Home-based Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) to Promote Social Communication and Behaviour in Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Recruiting
Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is a form of non-invasive brain stimulation that can be delivered in a home setting. It is a safe and tolerable intervention that has shown promise for improving positive social communication and self-regulation in youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Children and youth with ASD will be randomized to At-home tDCS or sham control stimulation for 3 weeks. We will measure the effect of At-home tDCS on the brain mechanisms and clinical measures of... Gut Microbiota in Chronic GI Diseases
Recruiting
The study involves characterizing the microbiota of patients with IBS, functional diarrhea, IBD, severe motility disorders and celiac disease. This will be complemented by a translational phase of human-mouse hybrid experiments in which germ-free mice will be colonized with feces from these patients with different GI disease and non-disease controls and we will compare symptoms, microbiota composition and histological changes in the gut and in the brain of the mice.

Evaluation of a Perceptual Learning Module on Spinal Ultrasound Among Residents.
Recruiting
This medical education research project aims to evaluate the impact of a directed perceptual learning module (PLM) on spinal sonoanatomy. Following a demographic questionnaire, participants will be exposed to a tutorial explaining the necessary theoretical foundations for the PLM as well as the functioning of the PLM interface. A pre-test involving selecting the best image from a video sequence depicting spinal sonoanatomy will be administered to all participants. Participants will then be rando... Read More
