Anxiety Clinical Trials

The investigators are evaluating the effects of an online single-session mental health intervention (the Common Elements Toolbox; COMET). To evaluate COMET, the investigators are conducting a randomized controlled trial with Greek adolescents attending high school in the Attica region in Greece. Students will be randomized to the COMET condition or to an active control condition. Primary outcome measures (depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms, subjective well-being) will be measured at two weeks post-intervention and four weeks post-intervention. The investigators will evaluate COMET as a universal intervention (using the full sample) and as a targeted intervention (analyzing those who reported elevated depressive symptoms or anxiety symptoms at baseline). Objectives: To assess the EEG patterns and EKG recordings of participants with no meditation experience with simply closing the eyes for 10 minutes followed by relaxing for 30 minutes. To assess the EEG patterns and EKG recordings of participants with no meditation experience by simply closing the eyes for 10 minutes and then with guided Heartfulness relaxation and meditation for 30 minutes. To assess the baseline anxiety score through GAD-7 questionnaire, subjective experience of all the participants through MEDEQ questionnaire that measures the depth of the meditation experience after the session and correlate with the EEG patterns of the brain and heart rate changes. EEG and EKG data from the groups will be analyzed by the sleep specialist. The study's objective is to assess whether CAM methods are feasible and beneficial in the WSRH setting; to assess stress (using the Perceived Stress Scale-14 and using BioSquares™), anxiety (using the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 scale), depression (using the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 scale), pain (using the Wong-Baker FACES scale), and vital signs using a multidisciplinary complementary approach with Heartfulness Meditation, Conscious Breathing, and Emotional Freedom Technique - the CAM practices for this study; and, to assess and compare the above scores for each participant just prior to and immediately after each treatment session. The study hypothesizes that using CAM modalities in the WSRH is both feasible and beneficial in that patient population; the patients receiving the CAM modalities of treatment will show an improvement in the above-mentioned scores compared to participant scores prior to the intervention; and there may also be an improvement in patients' vital signs following the intervention of CAM practices. Project ASSET will explore the preliminary efficacy of interpersonal therapy, when compared with cognitive behavioral therapy, for reducing anxiety symptoms, preventing excess weight gain, and reducing cardio-metabolic risk in adolescent girls with above-average weight and elevated anxiety. As a pilot for a larger multi-site study, this trial will also test multi-site feasibility, acceptability, and intervention fidelity. Read Less

The goal of this study is to estimate the direct, causal impact of medical debt on health care utilization, mental health, and wellbeing of patients. The investigators will conduct a survey to measure the impact of the debt forgiveness on health care use, mental health, and wellbeing. The survey will be administered to approximately 17,000 subjects of a recent medical financial intervention. In that prior intervention, a non-profit charity, RIP Medical Debt, purchased and abolished medical debt for a randomly selected about 6,000 (out of the 17,000) individuals. In this current protocol, the investigators will administer the survey, and will compare surveyed outcomes of subjects who received and did not receive the intervention. Read Less

This is a clinical trial evaluating anxiety reduction for women with opioid use disorder affecting pregnancy. It is well documented that anxiety increases as pregnancy progresses. We hypothesize that women who undergo green light therapy (experimental arm) will have a smaller increase in anxiety scores compared to the women who undergo white light therapy (control arm). We will also look at how much opiate replacement therapy increases women require during the study period, and how much opiate they require during admission for delivery. We think this a is a low risk intervention in a pregnant population that has higher levels of anxiety when compared to the general population. We believe based on animal studies that this could be effective, and change the way we treat and support individuals with substance use disorder. The opioid epidemic has negatively impacted our society at many levels. Finding non-pharmacologic ways to support patients while in recovery/sustained sobriety that are simple and low cost would be a step forward in providing compassionate and comprehensive treatment to individuals affected by Opioid Use Disorder.
