Prognostic Estimates Among ICU Clinicians
Recruiting
One challenge with decision making for mechanically ventilated is that their prognosis is often uncertain. The ProVent-14 score incorporates clinical variables measured on the 14th day of mechanical ventilation to predict risk of death in one year. The ProVent-14 is easy to calculate has been externally validated. However, it is unclear how often clinicians use the ProVent-14 score to predict long-term outcomes for patients requiring 14 days of mechanical ventilation or if it helps clinicians ma... Read More

Mediterranean Diet and Weight Loss: Targeting the Bile Acid/Gut Microbiome Axis to Reduce Colorectal Cancer
Recruiting
A Mediterranean Diet (MedDiet), a largely plant-based dietary pattern, is relevant to CRC prevention and microbial production of anti-cancer metabolites in observational studies. A MedDiet can shift BA metabolism as shown in primates and when combined with calorie restriction, shows superior adherence and weight control in humans, given its palatability. To date, no studies have tested in an RCT the effects of a MedDiet alone (MedA), WL through lifestyle intervention (WL-A) or a calorie-restrict... Read More

Developing Biomarkers of Plexiform Tumor Burden in Patients With Neurofibromatosis-Type 1
Recruiting
The purpose of this study is to identify tumor biomarkers in individuals with Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). Biomarkers are signals that the investigator can measure that tell us about a process such as progress of a disease or treatment. Individuals with this diagnosis are at an elevated risk of developing a type of tumor called a plexiform neurofibroma. Currently, detecting the risk factors of these tumors in children is difficult and requires whole body imaging. The NF1 team at Lurie Childre... Read More
