Cannabidiol for Bilateral Total Knee Arthroplasty
Recruiting
In light of the opioid epidemic and evidence suggesting that cannabis may be opioid-sparing, we are in a unique position to conduct a novel, high-impact study that would set the stage for future RCTs examining the effects of a nonintoxicating and nonaddictive cannabinoid in an orthopedic patient population. Epidiolex®, an oral cannabidiol (CBD) solution, is the first ever cannabis-derived medication to be approved by the Food & Drug Administration. Our aim is to conduct a pilot study using a pla... A Master Protocol Study (LY900028) of Multiple Intervention-Specific-Appendices (ISAs) in Participants With Chronic Pain
Recruiting
The purpose of the chronic pain master protocol is to compare independent pain interventions and establish an overarching structure for the disease-state addenda (DSA) and intervention-specific appendices (ISAs). The ISAs may start independently of other ISAs as interventions become available for clinical testing.

PRP for Glenohumeral Osteoarthritis
Recruiting
The glenohumeral joint is the third most common large joint to be affected by OA. Conservative treatments include physical activity, corticosteroid injections, and medications. PRP is an emerging treatment that has shown efficacy in different musculoskeletal conditions. The use of PRP for glenohumeral OA has been described sparingly in the literature but has shown efficacy in a couple studies and case reports. However, all of the previous studies investigating PRP for glenohumeral OA have focuse... Read More

Fluoroscopic Versus Ultrasound Guidance for Cooled Radiofrequency Ablation of Geniculate Nerves in Knee Osteoarthritis: A Randomized Control Trial
Recruiting
Cooled radiofrequency ablation (cRFA) of the knee geniculate nerves is a promising treatment option for knee osteoarthritis, but has variable efficacy. Fluoroscopy is the typical guidance of choice, but uses bony landmarks to target these nerves which have variable positions around the knee. Alternatively, ultrasound allows for targeting based on visualization of bony landmarks, the nerves, and their accompanying vascular structures, and thus may offer greater accuracy. However, there are few st... Read More

Innovations in Genicular Outcomes Registry
Recruiting
The registry will capture prospective data on patients receiving pain management for chronic pain due to knee osteoarthritis (OA) or pain optimization for knee arthroplasty due to knee OA. The OA pain therapies may include cryo nerve block, radiofrequency ablation (RFA), intra-articular (IA) corticosteroids, viscosupplementation, opioids, and others (e.g., non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs [NSAIDs]).

Preventing Injured Knees From osteoArthritis: Severity Outcomes
Recruiting
This study is being done to find out if metformin is effective at reducing pain by delaying the onset of post-traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. This research study will compare metformin to placebo. The placebo tablet looks exactly like metformin, but contains no metformin. Placebos are used in research studies to see if the results are due to the study drug or due to other reasons.
Metformin is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administrati... Read More

Triamcinolone Ketorolac (TriKe) Knee Trial
Recruiting
Cortisone injections are commonly used in the treatment of osteoarthrosis of the knee, but there are known detriments to cortisone including localized tissue atrophy near the injection site and acceleration of joint degeneration, as well as contraindications, such as uncontrolled diabetes. Ketorolac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory with decades of clinical data that is most commonly injected intramuscularly. There is rising interest in using ketorolac as an intra-articular injectant substitu... Read More

Knee Arthroplasty Activity Trial
Recruiting
Total knee replacement (TKR) is a common and costly procedure widely used to relieve pain and improve function in patients with symptomatic advanced knee osteoarthritis (OA). As of 2013, the annual incidence of TKR was over 680,000 surgeries and annual costs exceeded $11 billion. Growing evidence suggests that while pain and functional status improve following TKR, physical activity (PA) typically does not surpass pre-TKR levels. Engagement in PA can meaningfully improve quality of life (QoL), p... Read More
