COVID19 Paid Clinical Trials in Texas

The primary purpose of this study is to gain an understanding of how experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, regardless of COVID-19 status, may have impacted multiple domains of health-related quality of life and other areas such as COVID-19 specific psychological distress, and disruptions to health care, finances and social interactions. We will also evaluate the extent to which resiliency factors such as social support, perceived benefits under times of stress, and ability to manage stress may buffer associations between COVID-19 experiences and HRQoL. To meet these objectives, we have developed a 10-minute questionnaire that taps into these areas and is based on prior work addressing concerns of other pandemics or national crises. This study investigates the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the psychosocial health of employees of MD Anderson Cancer Center. Epidemics have been shown to promote psychological stress among medical staff in high risk areas, which may lead to mental health problems. Assessing how the pandemic is affecting employees may allow for more comprehensive actions to be taken to protect the mental health of employees. Read Less

This phase I trial tests the feasibility and safety of genetically modified cytotoxic T-lymphocytes in controlling infections caused by adenovirus (ADV), BK virus (BKV), cytomegalovirus (CMV), JC virus (JCV), or COVID-19 in immunocompromised patients with cancer. Viral infections are a leading cause of morbidity and mortality after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, and therapeutic options for these infections are often complicated by associated toxicities. Genetically modified cytotoxic T-lymphocytes (CTLs) are designed to kill a specific virus that can cause infections. Depending on which virus a patient is infected with (ADV, BKV, CMV, JCV, or COVID-19), the CTLs will be designed to specifically attack that virus. The study investigates how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the psychological, financial, physical, and social well-being of adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer patients and survivors. AYA cancer survivors have inferior long-term survival compared to the general population, and the negative impact of the global COVID-19 pandemic may be even higher in this vulnerable group. The information gained from this study may provide an opportunity to determine the self-reported COVID-19 specific psychological distress in AYA cancer survivors, and may lead to the development of a targeted intervention to improve physical and psychosocial health for AYA cancer patients and survivors. Hospitalized patients with severe COVID-19 have an increased incidence of insulin resistance, impaired beta cell function, glucose intolerance (prediabetes), and overt type 2 diabetes (T2D) compared to non-hospitalized patients with COVID-19 and COVID-19 negative individuals on long-term follow up. Since the neurologic symptoms of some COVID patients ('brain fog') resemble those of patients with concussion, the aim of this study is to identify EEG and cognitive function changes in COVID patients. We will use the FDA cleared BrainScope medical device in conjunction with standard neurocognitive tests to identify correlations with electrical biomarkers and to potentially identify new, unique patterns of altered brain electrical activity associated with COVID-19 infection. A baseline assessment will be performed shortly after hospital presentation and then a second evaluation will be performed 45-60 days post hospital discharge to reassess clinical status, brain electrical biomarkers and neurocognitive performance. The goal will be to develop an objective measurement of brain function/dysfunction associated with COVID-19 infection which might be employed in future studies of treatments for COVID-19 brain fog and to aid in tracking recovery. The goal of this observational study is to evaluate new non-invasive passive surveillance technologies, Level 42 AI imPulse™ for the detection of COVID-19 in asymptomatic and symptomatic individuals over age of 18 undergoing COVID-19 screening and testing at BAMC Ft Sam Houston, TX; with and without COVID-19. The hypotheses are: (H1) The imPulse™ Una e-stethoscope has at least a similar discriminative and detection ability among symptomatic and asymptomatic COVID-19 carrier versus those not infected compared to gold standard RT-PCR. Based on these promising studies, we will operationalize and deploy the imPulseTM Una e-stethoscope and other associated technology form factors into DoD use-cases. (H2) In the mid to long-term, this approach will also be explored as a diagnostic system to explore pursue the physical (structural and mechanical) properties of cells and tissues that maintain normal cell behavior (motility, growth, apoptosis), and the critical importance of the ability of cells to sense and respond to mechanical stresses, which will be operationally critical for assessment of both traumatic and unconventional exposures in austere environments. Participants will: Be consented; Be screened for COVID-19 symptoms according to BAMC's current screening procedures; Have study data collected; Complete a COVID-19 symptoms questionnaire; imPulseTM Una e-stethoscope examination will be conducted; Participants will be compensated for completing all study requirements. Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2-mediated coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an evolutionarily unprecedented natural experiment that causes major changes to the host immune system. We propose to develop a test that accurately predicts short- and long-term (within one-year) outcomes in hospitalized COVID-19 patients broadly reflecting US demographics who are at increased risk of adverse outcomes from COVID-19 using both clinical and molecular data.
