Detection of EEG-Based Biomarkers of Chronic Low Back Pain
Recruiting
Chronic low back pain (CLBP) is a pervasive disorder affecting up to one-fifth of adults globally and is the single greatest cause of disability worldwide. Despite the high prevalence and detrimental impact of CLBP, its treatments and mechanisms remain largely unclear. Biomarkers that predict symptom progression in CLBP support precision-based treatments and ultimately aid in reducing suffering. Longitudinal brain-based resting-state neuroimaging of patients with CLBP has revealed neural network... Read More

Virtual 1-Session Spanish "Empowered Relief" Group Intervention for Chronic Pain
Recruiting
Empowered Relief (ER) is a 1-session pain relief skills intervention that is delivered in-person or online by certified clinicians to groups of patients with acute or chronic pain. Prior work in has shown ER efficacy for reducing chronic pain, pain-related distress, and other symptoms 6 months post-treatment. The purpose of this randomized trial is to conduct the first feasibility and early efficacy test of online Spanish ER delivered to Spanish-speaking adult patients with chronic pain. Partici... Closed-Loop Deep Brain Stimulation for Refractory Chronic Pain
Recruiting
Chronic pain affects 1 in 4 US adults, and many cases are resistant to almost any treatment. Deep brain stimulation (DBS) holds promise as a new option for patients suffering from treatment-resistant chronic pain, but traditional approaches target only brain regions involved in one aspect of the pain experience and provide continuous 24/7 brain stimulation which may lose effect over time. By developing new technology that targets multiple, complimentary brain regions in an adaptive fashion, the... Read More

No Opioids vs. Minimal Opioids Following Inguinal Hernia Repair
Recruiting
The investigators hypothesize that not prescribing opioids after uncomplicated, outpatient IHR will be non-inferior to prescribing opioids (5 tablets of Oxycodone, 5mg; or surgeon preference for intolerance) with respect to requests for opioid refills. Additionally, the investigators believe there will be no significant difference in postoperative readmission for pain quality of life at 30 days in either group.

Pain and Opioids: Integrated Treatment In Veterans
Recruiting
This trial will recruit veterans with chronic pain (N = 160) who are prescribed buprenorphine for the treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD). We seek to: (1) examine the efficacy of an integrated treatment to reduce pain interference and substance misuse (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention [ACT + MBRP]) compared to an education control (EC) consisting of a protocol-based series of education sessions concerning chronic pain, opioids, and buprenorphine use a...
