There are currently 146 active clinical trials seeking participants for Autism Spectrum Disorder research studies. The states with the highest number of trials for Autism participants are California, New York, Ohio and Massachusetts.
Biomarker-Driven Pharmacological Treatment of Adolescents With Autism Spectrum Disorder With Gabapentin
Recruiting
The social cognitive deficits associated with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are related to an imbalance in excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmission, specifically a deficit in the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA. The investigators have used magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) techniques to measure GABA in specific brain regions and have demonstrated that a single dose of gabapentin increases GABA in brain regions associated with social cognition. This study will use a biomarker-driven appr... Read More

Emergent Multi-Class Imitation Training
Recruiting
The goals of this project are to (a) incorporate empirical findings on imitation training and learning in autistic children into a comprehensive protocol for Applied Behavior Analysis practitioners designed to rapidly facilitate generalized imitation called Emergent Multi-Class Imitation Training (EMIT), and (b) collect pilot data on the efficacy of EMIT with a small sample of autistic children. EMIT will incorporate several features that are grounded in prior research including: (a) evidence-ba... Read More

Telehealth Parent-Implemented Intervention for Young Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Recruiting
The primary objective of this research study is to improve outcomes involving core social-communication symptoms for young children with ASD by increasing access to clinically validated early behavioral intervention through a telehealth parent coaching model. The investigators will test the hypothesis that telehealth delivered NDBI parent coaching (TC) is non-inferior to in-person coaching (IPC) for the treatment of core social-communication symptoms in toddlers with ASD.

Pragmatic Trial Comparing Weight Gain in Children With Autism Taking Risperidone Versus Aripiprazole
Recruiting
This study aims to compare two FDA approved medications (aripiprazole and risperidone) for the treatment of behavioral dysregulation in children with autism spectrum disorders. This trial, done in the context of routine clinical care, will seek to evaluate whether aripiprazole or risperidone is associated with more weight gain in children.

Modular Approach for Autism Programs in Schools
Recruiting
The number of students aged 6-21 years with an educational classification of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in the United States grew by about 19 times over a 19-year period-from 29,076 in 1995-6 to 545,198 in 2014-2015 (IDEA Data Center, 2018). Meeting the needs of this growing population of students is a significant concern for schools (Bowen, 2014). Investigators have described as many as 27 efficacious intervention strategies for teaching new skills to children with ASD (Wong et al., 2015).... Read More

Impact of Sulphonylureas on Neurodevelopmental Outcomes in KCNJ11-related Intermediate Developmental Delay, Epilepsy and Neonatal Diabetes (iDEND) Syndrome
Recruiting
The goal of this observational study is to learn about the impact of the diabetes drug glibenclamide (glyburide) on neurodevelopment in individuals with iDEND (developmental delay, epilepsy and neonatal diabetes) due to the V59M mutation in the KCNJ11 gene. The main question it aims to answer is whether initiating sulphonylurea (SU) therapy in the first 6 months of life results in better neurodevelopmental outcomes in affected individuals, in comparison to starting therapy later than 6 months of... Non-invasive Brain Stimulation in Children With Autism
Recruiting
Although many children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) make significant progress in learning and their cognitive skills improve with applied behavior analysis (ABA), there are a significant number of children who show an absence or a plateau in various skills. Deficits in executive functioning are likely to be involved in many of these cognitive and learning disabilities due to poor functioning of the prefrontal cortex. Currently, the use of biological methods for improving learnin... Read More
