There are currently 147 active clinical trials seeking participants for Autism Spectrum Disorder research studies. The states with the highest number of trials for Autism Spectrum Disorder participants are California, New York, Ohio and Massachusetts.
Iterative Redesign of a Multifaceted Implementation Strategy for a School-based Behavioral Skills Intervention (RUBI)
Recruiting
The increased prevalence of autism spectrum disorder (1 in 36 youth) in the United States along with the exorbitant cost of care of supporting one autistic individual with and without intellectual disability across their lifespan ($2.4 and $1.4 million, respectively) creates a sense of urgency to improve outcomes for autistic youth. Schools are the primary setting in which autistic children receive intervention. Despite a growing array of evidence-based interventions (EBI) such as behavioral man... Read More

Parent-Mediated Intervention Targeting Insistence on Sameness for Autistic Children
Recruiting
This study will examine the potential effectiveness of a virtually delivered parent-mediated intervention for insistence on sameness behaviors in autism and investigate 1) whether caregivers can learn to deliver the adapted Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood emotions (SPACE) intervention for IS via telehealth and 2) whether children will show greater improvement in IS behaviors.

Abnormal Connectivity Involving the Social Reciprocity Network in Autism and the Impact of Neurostimulation in Mitigating the Abnormalities
Recruiting
There is no consensus regarding the neurological substrate underpinning ASD. The investigators describe the novel concept of "social reciprocity network" and hypothesize that aberrant connectivity/oscillatory patterns affecting this network contribute to the core deficits in ASD. The overarching goal of this trial is to explore abnormalities involving the neuronal connectivity and oscillatory patterns within the social reciprocity network and to elucidate the role of modulating this network via... The Autism Biomarkers Consortium for Clinical Trials: Confirmation Study
Recruiting
This is a multicenter longitudinal study that aims to validate a set of measures that were previously identified as promising candidate biomarkers and/or sensitive and reliable objective measures of social function in ASD for potential use in clinical trials. The confirmation study will repeat the data collection and analysis protocols from the original ABC-CT study. This confirmation study will recruit 200 ASD and 200 TD comparison participants who are 6-11 years old, matching the overall sampl... Read More

Milieu Teaching-AV (MT-AV Pilot)
Recruiting
This project will look at whether a novel approach to language intervention that encourages looking to audiovisual speech cues for infants with autistic older siblings (Baby Sibs), who are highly likely be diagnosed with autism or developmental language disorder (DLD). This study will specifically look at (a) whether caregivers find this approach to be easy to implement in their homes, (b) whether they find this approach to be acceptable, and (c) whether caregivers use the taught strategies in i... Treatment to Improve Sleep in Caregivers With Insomnia and a Child With Autism
Recruiting
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) represents one of the most perplexing neurobiological disorders with a prevalence of 1 in 54 children. The lifelong challenging and disruptive behaviors often associated with ASD requires caregivers to change their behavior and modify their environments to provide an ecosystem for optimal outcomes for their child, family and themselves. ASD behaviors can have significant impact on caregivers mental health and family functioning, including the ability to develop and... Read More

Trial of Zolpidem for Sleep in Children with Autism
Recruiting
The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of zolpidem on sleep in children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Zolpidem is a nonbenzodiazepine GABAa receptor agonist drug that acts as a hypnotic. To accomplish this, the investigators will use a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled crossover 8-week study design to examine the effect of zolpidem on sleep physiology as assessed by polysomnography (PSG), actigraphy, circadian rhythm, and clinical measures.

Trial of Suvorexant for Sleep in Children with Autism
Recruiting
The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of suvorexant on sleep in children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Suvorexant is a selective, dual orexin receptor antagonist (DORA) used for the treatment of sleep onset difficulties and/or sleep maintenance. To accomplish this, the investigators will use a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled crossover 8-week study design to examine the effect of suvorexant on sleep physiology as assessed by polysomnography (PSG), ac... Modified Pivotal Response Treatment for Insistence on Sameness in Autistic Youth
Recruiting
The purpose of this open label trial is to examine the preliminary feasibility, acceptability, and effectiveness of a 12-week behavioral intervention program (1 hour/week) to treat insistence on sameness (e.g., difficulty tolerating changes in routine) in youth with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Treatment will be delivered via secure telemedicine platform and consist of a combination of parent-training and parent-mediated intervention with the child.

Internet-delivered Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Adolescents with Autism and Anxiety
Recruiting
Anxiety is very common in autistic youth. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is the recommended treatment for both autistic and typically-developing (TD) youth with anxiety, yet most families cannot access CBT due to cost, practicalities of attending in-person treatment sessions, and a shortage of trained providers, especially in rural areas. The goal of this project is to increase access to care for families of autistic adolescents with anxiety through an internet-based treatment model.
