The city of Gainesville, Florida, currently has 22 active clinical trials seeking participants for Pain research studies.
The Feasibility of the Pray Until Something Happens (PUSH) Intervention-OUTPATIENT
Recruiting
The goal of this research study is to reduce stress and improve sickle cell disease (SCD) pain control and sleep quality with less opioid use by determining the feasibility of an intervention with self-management combined intercessory and petitionary prayer, named Pray Until Something Happens (PUSH) stress reduction intervention using a mobile smart device. Currently, opioid analgesics are primarily used to treat SCD pain while self-managed behavioral modalities such as PUSH, are rarely used. Li... Read More

Pervasive Sensing and AI in Intelligent ICU
Recruiting
Important information related to the visual assessment of patients, such as facial expressions, head and extremity movements, posture, and mobility are captured sporadically by overburdened nurses, or are not captured at all. Consequently, these important visual cues, although associated with critical indices such as physical functioning, pain, delirious state, and impending clinical deterioration, often cannot be incorporated into clinical status. The overall objectives of this project are to s... Read More

Transdiagnostic Intervention to Reduce Internalized Health-Related Stigma
Recruiting
Stigma due to health conditions increases disease burden and adversely impacts health. The internalization of health-related stigma is associated with impaired mental health and quality of life. The current project will test the effects of a novel, transdiagnostic, group counseling intervention, and peer support, to determine the optimal method for helping patients cope with health-related stigma, reducing its internalization, and enhancing patient quality of life.

Krill Oil for Pain in Elders
Recruiting
Chronic musculoskeletal pain contributes to mobility disability among older adults. Nutritional interventions, like omega-3 fatty acids, may help manage pain and improve physical function. Supplementation with krill oil may offer advantages to fish oil due to better absorption and additional nutrients. This pilot study aims to assess the feasibility of a clinical trial to determine the impact of krill oil supplementation on pain and function in older adults, informing future research.

Opioid-Sparing and Pain-Reducing Properties of Syntocinon: A Dose-Effect Determination
Recruiting
Some research suggests that administration of oxytocin with oxycodone may reduce its abuse liability and improve its ability to reduce pain. In a 6-session laboratory study, the investigators will be evaluating the effects of oxycodone and oxytocin (combined and separately, across sessions) on experimentally-induced pain, subjective effects, decision-making, and activation of different neural substrates.

Mechanisms and Modulation of Pain Modulatory Capacity
Recruiting
This project proposes to understand the sources of pain variability, and demonstrate that pain variability represents fluctuation in natural pain management. The project further proposes to determine if endogenous capacity to modulate pain can be trained to maximize their body's ability to manage pain, much as the way in which athletic performance can be trained.

Integrative Breathwork Intervention for Chronic Pain
Recruiting
The proposed research is to develop and refine a multicomponent breathwork intervention, Guided Respiration Mindfulness Therapy, and to iteratively evaluate its feasibility, acceptability, and plausibility for clinically significant effects in people with chronic low back pain. This integrative breathwork intervention involves a 60-minute breathing session where the focus is to maintain a conscious connected breathing pattern (no pause between inhale and exhale), apply mindful acceptance to soma... Lavender Aromatherapy to Decrease Anxiety/Pain Perception During Office Hysteroscopy
Recruiting
Office hysteroscopy is an invaluable practice to treat a myriad of gynecological processes. However, a limiting factor is the perceived pain and anxiety. In a randomized pilot study, treatment with lavender aromatherapy will significantly decrease the stress/anxiety levels associated with office hysteroscopy, as measured on a visual analogue scale and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) questionnaire when compared to control subjects receiving distilled water placebo.
