Current methods of measuring the response to new treatments for muscular dystrophies involve the examination of small pieces of muscle tissue called biopsies. The investigators are interested in finding less invasive methods that reduce the need for muscle biopsies. The purpose of this research is to learn about the possibility of detecting and measuring the activity and severity of muscular dystrophies by examining a urine sample and a blood sample, and some muscles in the arms and legs using tests called ultrasound and electrical impedance myography; both tests are painless and non-invasive. The information that is gathered from this study may help to evaluate, prevent, diagnose, treat, and improve the understanding of human muscle diseases. Read Less

The duodenoscopes currently used for Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio - and Pancreaticography (ERCP) examinations are reusable and are therefore washed and disinfected after each use. Despite this, these endoscopes sometimes remain contaminated with bacteria. Several reports of outbreaks linked to contaminated duodenoscopes have been published worldwide. Recently, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advised manufacturers and health care professionals to transition away from fixed endcap duodenoscopes and instead focus more on the use of duodenoscopes with disposable components or fully disposable duodenoscopes. Single-use endoscopes have been developed, but they are not yet widely used, partly because of the extra costs that these endoscopes add to the examination. A possible interim solution, is to only use these disposable endoscopes in patients who carry multi-resistant bacteria in order to prevent the spread of these bacteria. For this, it is important to know how many people who undergo an ERCP carry multi-resistant bacteria. The primary objective of this study is to measure the prevalence of multi-resistant bacteria in patients undergoing ERCP in four different countries: India, the Netherlands, Italy and the United States. In the Netherlands, some secondary outcomes will be investigated with regard to the prevalence of duodenoscope contamination, the risk of bacterial transmission via a contaminated duodenoscope and the presence of multi-resistant bacteria in the duodenum. This multicenter study will enroll 100 patients with acute traumatic cervical and thoracic SCI who have a lumbar intrathecal catheter inserted within 24 hours of their injury. The lumbar intrathecal catheter will be inserted pre-operatively for the measurement of ITP and the collection of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples. SCPP will be calculated as the difference between MAP and the ITP. There are two important distinct yet related objectives in this prospective interventional study. 1. Determine the effect of SCPP maintenance ≥ 65 mmHg in acute SCI on neurologic recovery as measured by ASIA Impairment Scale (AIS) grade conversion and motor score improvement. 2. Collect CSF and blood samples for the measurement of neurochemical biomarkers and storage for future biomarker discovery and validation studies. Read Less

The Accelerating Medicines Partnership® Schizophrenia (AMP® SCZ) is a large international collaboration to develop algorithms using a set of clinical and cognitive assessments, multi-modal biomarkers, and clinical endpoints that can be used to predict the trajectories and outcomes of individuals at clinical high risk (CHR) for psychosis and to advance the testing of pharmacological interventions for CHR individuals in need. The goal is to accurately predict which individuals are likely to remit, experience an acute psychotic episode, or have intermediate outcomes that feature persistent attenuated psychotic and/or mood symptoms along with functional impairment. The prediction algorithms will have the potential to serve as early indicators of treatment efficacy in CHR persons. The AMP SCZ research program is made up of the Psychosis Risk Evaluation, Data Integration, and Computational Technologies - Data Processing, Analysis and Coordination Center (PREDICT-DPACC) and two clinical research networks, the Psychosis-Risk Outcomes Network (ProNET) and the Trajectories and Predictors in the Clinical High Risk for Psychosis Population: Prediction Scientific Global Consortium (PRESCIENT) networks. The two clinical research networks will recruit a large cohort of CHR young people aged 12-30 years (n=1,977) and healthy control (HC) participants (n=640) across 42 participating investigative sites from 13 countries. CHR participants will complete screening, baseline assessments and a battery of follow-up assessments across 18 - 24 months. The goal of this clinical trial is to follow the progress of wounds in those with venous leg ulcers and diabetic foot ulcers while using an absorbent dressing called Mepilex Up. The main objective is to follow the progress of these wounds over time from initial visit to each follow-up visit. Participants will be asked to wear Mepilex Up dressing for up to 6 weeks of treatment or until healed, changed at every one-week interval. Read Less
