This clinical trial is studying the genetic changes in cells associated with different types of cancer in Indigenous American (IA) populations in the Southwest to improve cancer screening, precision prevention, and therapeutic intervention for individual in these communities. IA tribes have much lower rates of cancer screening, have more limited access to healthcare, are more often diagnosed at later stages of disease, and have the poorest outcomes in all types of cancer when compared to any other racial and ethnic group in the United States. Due to these significant cancer health disparities, IAs have been understudied and little is known about the molecular characterization of tumors arising in IAs. This pilot study seeks to understand how changes in the bacteria composition (microbiome) of the gut may be associated with the occurrence of fatigue and chemotherapy-induced nausea (CIN) in women undergoing chemotherapy for early stage breast cancer. Patients undergoing chemotherapy may experience fatigue or nausea as a result of their treatment. Known risk factors for fatigue and CIN do not explain the differences in fatigue and CIN occurrence between patients, but changes in the functions of the gut microbiome may be related to the occurrence of fatigue and CIN. This study collects stool samples from breast cancer patients before and after chemotherapy to evaluate how changes in the microbiome may be associated with fatigue and CIN. Read Less

This phase II trial examines the use of blood-based biomarkers is to help inform decision making for treatment and radiation therapy for patients with human papillomavirus (HPV) positive oropharyngeal squamous cell cancers. The standard treatments for head and neck cancers are radiation therapy with chemotherapy or surgery potentially followed by radiation therapy with or without chemotherapy. Radiation therapy uses high energy rays to kill tumor cells and shrink tumors. Giving chemotherapy along with radiation may kill more tumor cells. However, the cancer can recur or can spread to other parts of the body and all treatments can be associated with side effects. The purpose of this study is to evaluate a blood-based biomarker, using the NavDx testing device, for head and neck cancers in order to see if it can help improve selection of the intensity of treatment in order to best balance the side effects of treatment with the goal of decreasing cancer recurrence. This clinical trial studies how well intensity modulated proton therapy (IMPT) or intensity modulated X-ray (radiation) therapy (IMRT) works after surgery in treating patients with head and neck cancer. IMPT is a type of radiation therapy that allows for the most accurate application of proton radiation to the tumor and has the potential to reduce treatment-related side effects. IMRT is a type of 3-dimensional radiation therapy that uses computer-generated images to show the size and shape of the tumor. Thin beams of x-ray radiation of different intensities are aimed at the tumor from many angles. This type of radiation therapy reduces the damage to healthy tissue near the tumor. IMPT may work as well as IMRT after surgery in treating patients with head and neck cancer. Read Less

This clinical feasibility study is to evaluate the performance of the Omega-Cuff in the treatment of acid reflux for up to 15 patients with a 1-year follow-up period. The Omega-shaped nitinol device is placed on top of the esophageal sphincter muscle just above the stomach in a laparoscopic surgical procedure without altering anatomy. In animal studies, the device safely increased the pressure on the sphincter, meaning it increased resistance to acid reflux, but did not interfere with normal food swallowing, meaning food went down to the stomach normally and smoothly. The device is intended to augment the function of the weak sphincter in minimizing acid reflux but allows easy swallowing of food in GERD patients. The clinical feasibility study is to see how well this device functions in patients and to assess its safety profile. This is a permanent implant that will last the lifetime of the patient. The device will not interfere with patients who may need diagnostic MRI scans. The device can be safely removed if needed. Read Less

This phase III trial compares the effects of radiation therapy using RapidPlan, trademark, knowledge-based planning to human-driven planning in treating patients with prostate cancer. Radiation therapy uses high energy x-rays, particles, or radioactive seeds to kill tumor cells and shrink tumors. Successful delivery of radiation requires planning to develop a treatment plan for how and where the radiation is to be delivered. RapidPlan is a knowledge-based treatment planning tool that automatically creates an optimal treatment plan based on identified targets and organs at risk for radiation exposure. Human-driven treatment planning by a dosimetrist, the current standard of care, requires significant resources and time and may vary within and among radiation centers. Giving radiation therapy with RapidPlan knowledge-based planning may have similar or less side effects compared to human-driven planning in treating patients with prostate cancer. Read Less

Prospective, controlled, multicenter clinical investigation with four trial cohorts: Randomized, Non-repairable, Severe Mitral Annular Calcification (MAC) and Severe Mitral Annular Calcification Continued Access Protocol (MAC CAP). Subjects in the Randomized cohort will be randomized in a 1:1 ratio to the trial device or to the MitraClip system. Subjects in the Non-repairable, Severe MAC, and Severe MAC CAP cohorts will receive the trial device. The objective of the Clinical Trial to Evaluate the Safety and Effectiveness of Using the Tendyne Transcatheter Mitral Valve System for the Treatment of Symptomatic Mitral Regurgitation (SUMMIT) is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the Tendyne Transcatheter Mitral Valve System for the treatment of patients with symptomatic, moderate-to-severe or severe mitral regurgitation or for patients with symptomatic mitral valve disease due to severe mitral annular calcification. This randomized controlled trial will provide the opportunity to evaluate the safety and clinical benefits of the Tendyne Transcatheter Mitral Valve System compared to the MitraClip System in patients with symptomatic, moderate-to-severe or severe mitral regurgitation, within approved MitraClip indications. In addition, the safety and effectiveness of the Tendyne Transcatheter Mitral Valve System will be evaluated in patients with severe mitral annular calcification who are at prohibitive risk for mitral valve surgery. Patients who are not suitable for mitral valve surgery for reasons other than severe mitral annular calcification and are also not suitable for transcatheter repair with MitraClip, will be enrolled in the Non-repairable cohort.
