Pain Paid Clinical Trials in Florida

This project will determine the clinical utility of non-surgical spine decompression for chronic low back pain (LBP). LBP is one of the highest incidence medical conditions that contributes to disability, decreased activities of daily living, decreased quality of life, and inability to work. LBP affects ≈70-85% of people during their lifetime, with ≈20% becoming chronic by age 20-59 years. Many current LBP therapeutics have detrimental long-term effects, undesired side effects, are invasive procedures with low success rates, and do not fare better than conservative care. Further, many chronic musculoskeletal pain patients do not respond to surgery, and many develop dependence on opioids. This project will implement a small-scale double-blinded, randomized proof-of-concept clinical trial to gather biomechanical and MRI data that will objectively determine the effectiveness of non-surgical spinal decompression (NSSD) over a 12-week longitudinal timeframe. The potential to provide a non-invasive alternative to chronic LBP via NSSD is innovative and addresses the pressing need for safer, more effective pain management options with fewer negative sequelae. To demonstrate the potential benefits and risk of active sub-threshold stimulation in the treatment of chronic knee pain as compared to subjects that did not have active stimulation. Supplementation with krill oil may offer advantages to fish oil due to better absorption and additional nutrients. The goal of this research study is to reduce stress and improve sickle cell disease (SCD) pain control and sleep quality with less opioid use by determining the feasibility of an intervention with self-management combined intercessory and petitionary prayer, named Pray Until Something Happens (PUSH) stress reduction intervention using a mobile smart device. Currently, opioid analgesics are primarily used to treat SCD pain while self-managed behavioral modalities such as PUSH, are rarely used. Little is known about the effects or mechanisms of PUSH on pain, stress, and sleep symptoms in adults with SCD. Emerging evidence from the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal (HPA) axis theory offer insights for understanding the mechanisms. Adding PUSH as a supplement to analgesic therapies will address the dearth of self-management strategies for controlling pain in SCD. PUSH is a simple and cost-effective non-drug intervention that could reduce pain and stress in inpatients with SCD. The goal of the ATX101-TKA-004 clinical trial aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of ATX101 1,500 mg in participants undergoing primary unilateral total knee arthroplasty. The study will compare the effectiveness of ATX101 with a saline placebo and bupivacaine, an active comparator. The overall objectives of this project are to sense, quantify, and communicate patients' clinical conditions in an autonomous and precise manner, and develop a pervasive intelligent sensing system that combines deep learning algorithms with continuous data from inertial, color, and depth image sensors for autonomous visual assessment of critically ill patients.
