The state of Massachusetts currently has 81 active clinical trials seeking participants for Pain research studies. These trials are conducted in various cities, including Boston, Worcester, Springfield and Burlington.
Understanding Rebound Pain After Regional Anesthesia Resolution in Healthy Volunteers
Recruiting
Regional anesthesia decreases postoperative pain scores and opioid consumption, and may prevent chronic pain after surgery in patients undergoing surgery. However, some patients experience an increase of pain into the severe range when the nerve block wears off, also known as rebound pain. The investigators are studying if a nerve block (numbing injection) in the arm causes hyperalgesia (increased pain) when the nerve block is wearing off.

Comparison of Qutenza (8% Capsaicin) With a Low-dose Capsaicin for Treatment of Nerve Pain After Surgery
Recruiting
This is an interventional, Phase III, double-blind, randomized, controlled, parallel-group, multi-site, clinical trial to confirm the efficacy and safety of repeated topical application of Qutenza (capsaicin 8% topical system) versus low-dose capsaicin control (capsaicin 0.04% topical system) in subjects with moderate to severe postsurgical neuropathic pain (PSNP).

A Study to Evaluate Efficacy and Safety of GSK3858279 in Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathic Pain
Recruiting
This is a multicenter randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase 2 study to evaluate efficacy, safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and target engagement of GSK3858279 in adult participants with chronic Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathic Pain (DPNP). The primary objective of the study is to assess the efficacy of GSK3858279 in participants with DPNP who have been unable to sufficiently manage their pain.

Evaluation of Medical Cannabis and Prescription Opioid Taper Support for Reduction of Pain and Opioid Dose in Patients With Chronic Non-Cancer Pain
Recruiting
This study will use a randomized controlled design to test whether medical marijuana use by adults on high-dose chronic opioid therapy (COT) for chronic non-cancer pain is associated with reduced opioid dose and improved pain intensity and interference when added to a 24-week behavioral intervention (POTS).

Feasibility of Remote Tai Chi
Recruiting
In the proposed trial, the investigators plan to refine interventions, then conduct a small randomized trial to provide critical information to inform a future large-scale randomized efficacy trial of Tai Chi for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and chronic pain. Building on the combined experience the proposed study will progress in new directions to: Adapt, refine, and standardize two 12-week treatment protocols (Tai Chi and a Wellness control condition) for Veterans diagnosed with PTSD... Neurobiological Mechanisms of Stress in Youth With Chronic Widespread Pain
Recruiting
Chronic widespread pain (CWP) is a common chronic pain condition in youth and often associated with significant pain-related and psychosocial impairment. Understanding the neurobiological mechanisms that may underlie pediatric chronic pain and pain-related impairment can inform future treatments to ameliorate patients' suffering, making it a critical area of empirical investigation.

Prospective Study of Sensation and Satisfaction in Cancer and Transgender Mastectomy Patients
Recruiting
During breast surgery, sensory nerves are cut which may lead to reduced sensation and pain. Surgical reinnervation techniques have been developed with the aim of improving postoperative sensation by preserving the nerves and connecting them to the nipple and areola. The investigators aim to compare postoperative sensation and patient reported outcomes in patients undergoing reinnervation versus those not undergoing reinnervation to determine if there is a difference. The investigators will inves... Read More

Surgical Treatments for Postamputation Pain
Recruiting
This is a double-blind randomised controlled trial (RCT) which compares the effectiveness of three surgical techniques for alleviating residual limb pain (RLP), neuroma pain and phantom limb pain (PLP). The three surgical treatments are Targeted Muscles Reinnervation (TMR), Regenerative Peripheral Nerve Interface (RPNI), and an active control (neuroma excision and muscle burying). Patients will be follow-up for 4 years.

Using Non-Weightbearing Stationary Elliptical Machines for Patients With Chronic Low Back Pain
Recruiting
The goal of this clinical trial is to assess the effect of non-weightbearing stationary ellipticals (Cubii, Fitness Cubed, Inc.) on patient well-being with chronic lower back pain (CLBP). The main questions it aims to answer are: Assess the effect of non-weightbearing stationary ellipticals on clinical outcomes inclduing vital signs, pain, disability, analgesic use, mental health, abdominal muscle strength, and compliance in patients with CLBP. Assess the effect of placing the patients into an... Read More
