Neural Bases of Vocal Sensorimotor Impairment in Aphasia
Recruiting
Aphasia is the most common type of post-stroke communication disorder characterized by deficits in speech comprehension, production and control. While recovery can be promoted with speech therapy, improvement remains modest and typically requires a large number of sessions contributing to rising health care costs. Traditional aphasia therapy focus on enhancing speech motor output; however, recent evidence suggests that the auditory feedback also plays a critical role in fluent speech. Therefore,... Read More

A Study to Evaluate VXA-CoV2-3.3 COVID-19 Vaccine Against Currently Approved/Authorized mRNA COVID-19 Injectable Booster Vaccine in Adults Previously Immunized Against COVID-19 Infection
Recruiting
The primary objective of the study is to determine the relative efficacy of the investigational oral severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV2) vaccine tablet VXA-CoV2-3.3 compared to a currently recommended vaccine for the prevention of symptomatic Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). In order to represent a more recently circulating SARS-CoV-2 variant, the main study endpoints will now evaluate the VXA-CoV2-3.3 (KP.2 strain) vaccine, and not the VXA-CoV2-3.1 (XBB.1.5 strain)... High-Dose Vitamin D Supplementation for ADT-Induced Bone Loss in Older Prostate Cancer Patients
Recruiting
This phase III trial tests whether high-dose vitamin D works in treating androgen-deprivation therapy (ADT)-induced bone loss in patients with prostate cancer who are undergoing androgen-deprivation therapy. Vitamins are substances that the body needs to grow and develop normally. Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium. Calcium is one of the main building blocks of bone. A lack of vitamin D can lead to bone diseases such as osteoporosis or rickets. This trial may help researchers determine if h... Read More

3D-Printed Versus Laboratory-Fabricated Hyrax Expanders
Recruiting
Maxillary expanders are orthodontic appliances that are commonly used to expand the upper jaw. The purpose of this study will be to compare the effects produced by two different maxillary expanders in children 8-13 years old. The first type of expander is made by hand in an orthodontic laboratory, and the second type of expander is designed on a computer and printed using 3D printers. Both expanders are already used in the MUSC Orthodontics Clinic. The purpose of this study is to see if the 3D p... Read More

Primary Subtalar Arthrodesis for Calcaneal Fractures
Recruiting
Management of severe injuries to the heel (displaced intra-articular calcaneus fractures) continues to be a major challenge for orthopedic surgeons. Previous studies have demonstrated poor outcomes, and results show that patients experience long-term pain and decreased quality of life postoperatively. Poor outcomes are driven by pain, in particular, which is linked to post-traumatic subtalar arthritis.
