Safety, Tolerability, and Feasibility of Empagliflozin Therapy in Dialysis-dependent ESKD
Recruiting
The purpose of this study is to find out if empagliflozin, a new diabetic medication that has been shown to be very effective in lowering the risk of heart failure, is safe and tolerated in dialysis patients. In the recent years, empagliflozin has become a major tool to prevent heart failure hospitalization and to reduce the risk for cardiovascular death in diabetic and non-diabetic patients. Although patients with severe chronic kidney disease and ESKD have very high risk of heart failure and c... Read More

Intervention For AYAS With Cancer Risk Syndromes
Recruiting
This research is being done because there is a need to improve cancer risk communication and decision-making among adolescents and young adults. In this study, the investigators are looking at whether using a chatbot and online portal for cancer risk information helps improve communication and decision-making. Over 70,000 adolescents and young adults (AYAs) are diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. every year and up to 10% have genetic changes (or, mutations) that put them at a higher risk of devel... This is a prospective in vitro cell biology study of polymorphonuclear leukocyte (PMN) protein synthesis in response to PAF. PMNs from cord blood of premature human infants at risk for NEC (birth weight between 501 - 1500 grams) and PMNs from cord blood of healthy term infants will be isolated and stimulated with PAF, a biologically active phospholipid implicated in the pathogenesis of NEC. NEC, a disease of prematurity with an incidence of 10.1% of infants born weighing between 501 - 1500 grams... Read More

Assessing Changes in Myocardial Tissue and Blood in Patients With Advanced Heart Disease
Recruiting
Hypothesis: Tissue and serum samples collected from end-stage heart failure patients receiving left ventricular assist device implantation (LVAD) or heart transplantation will provide information regarding the basic science of heart disease. Tissue and serum samples collected from a limited numbers of "healthy controls" (donor grafts that were not utilized for heart transplantation) will serve as a comparator in research database projects. Design: This is a registry project; there are no inve... Read More
