Mindfulness-oriented Recovery Enhancement (MORE) for Cancer Pain Relief
Recruiting
The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether or not mindfulness-based interventions/MBIs may help reduce chronic pain in participants who have cancer-related chronic pain. MBIs are therapeutic programs that use mindfulness meditation practices to help people focus on the present moment, as well as encourage acceptance of thoughts, emotions, and body sensations. The researchers think that an MBI treatment called Mindfulness-oriented Recovery Enhancement (MORE) may help people who are experien... Read More

Chronic Pain Management In Primary Care Using Behavioral Health Consultants
Recruiting
The purpose of this randomized pragmatic trial is to assess the effect of monthly booster contacts on long-term Brief Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Chronic Pain (BCBT-CP) pain outcomes compared to BCBT-CP without a booster in 716 Military Health Systems (MHS) beneficiaries referred to a Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC) for pain management using BCBT-CP. Patients will be randomly assigned to receive either standard BCBT-CP (working with a BHC in the medical home clinic) or standard BCBT-CP w... Read More

The PROACTIVE Study for Black Elders
Recruiting
Chronic musculoskeletal pain (CMP), while a leading cause of physical disablement, is a neglected national health disparity issue in Black communities. The purpose of this study is to test a novel culturally congruent pain self-management intervention. A total of 120 persons aged 50-92, self-identifying as Black or African American having CMP will be invited to participate in this study. The primary outcome measured throughout this 3-year study is movement-evoked pain (MEP).

Cannabidiol in Opioid Use Disorder and Chronic Pain
Recruiting
This is a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled cross-over human laboratory study with a duration of approximately 4 weeks, during which participants will come to the testing site for a total of five times: one initial screening session, and four experimental sessions where study medication, Cannabidiol (CBD) will be administered, separated by at least 72 hours to limit carryover effects.

Anatomical and Functional Imaging Correlates of Chronic Pain in Cerebral Palsy
Recruiting
The investigators hope to use MRI biomarkers to identify and characterize sensorimotor network disruption patterns associated with chronic pain and sensory deficits in CP. Investigators will use existing information in the medical record as well as subjective reports from interview, physical exam data, and anatomical and functional MRI data to non-invasively identify brain injury correlates of pain and sensory deficits.

Moderators and Mediators (M & M Trial) of Psychosocial Treatments of Chronic Pain
Recruiting
Chronic musculoskeletal pain (CP) is a major public health concern. Psychosocial treatments have been shown to be efficacious when compared to largely inert control conditions, but they are characterized by modest effects on primary outcomes. One strategy to boost efficacy is to increase our understanding of treatment mediators. Studies of mediators that directly compare different treatments with each other are needed to determine which mediators are treatment-specific, which are shared across t... Read More

Using Ecological Momentary Assessment to Develop an Adaptive Psychological Intervention for Young Adults With Chronic Pain
Recruiting
The goal of this observational study is to determine real-time contextual vulnerabilities associated with pain in young adults to inform ideal treatment targets for a just-in-time adaptive intervention (JITAI). The main question it aims to answer is: -What contextual factors and vulnerabilities will predict momentary, next-day, and weekly pain severity? 50 young adults, ages 18-25 with a diagnosis of childhood-onset primary chronic pain, will complete 1) baseline questionnaires on REDCap to col... HOnest Placebos With Explanations: Evaluating Open-Label Placebos for Chronic Pain
Recruiting
The goal of this clinical trial is to examine the effect of rationale condition when taking open-label placebos on pain by 1) comparing each rationale to the no rationale control condition and the no treatment control condition; and 2) comparing the rationale conditions to each other. We also aim to examine the effect of rationale condition on prescription opioid use by 1) comparing each rationale to the no rationale control condition and the no treatment control condition; and 2) comparing the... Stepped Care for Patients to Optimize Whole Recovery
Recruiting
This is a prospective, randomized clinical trial of 204 patients with opioid use disorder (OUD) and chronic pain (CP) to test the effectiveness of treatment as usual compared with Stepped Care for Patients to Optimize Whole Recovery (SC-POWR) to reduce pain interference (Aim 1) and decrease illicit opioid use, alcohol use, anxiety, depression, and stress, and improve sleep (Aim 2). Eligible participants will begin medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) and will be randomized to receive SC-PO... Read More

Managing Opioid Related Sleep Apnea With Acetazolamide
Recruiting
Patients with chronic pain who use opioids appear to be at increased risk for breathing issues during sleep, termed sleep disordered breathing (SDB). Treatment of SDB often consists of use of a device during sleep that provides continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) via a mask interface. However, this device is not effective or tolerated in all individuals. The goal of this study is to examine whether a medication called acetazolamide can improve SDB, as an alternative to CPAP treatment. Th... Read More
