Hawaii Clinical Trials
A listing of Hawaii clinical trials actively recruiting patient volunteers.
Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor-B (VEGF-B) Blockade With the Monoclonal Antibody CSL346 in Subjects With Diabetic Kidney Disease
This phase 2a, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study will assess the efficacy, safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics (PK), of repeat doses of CSL346 in subjects with diabetic kidney disease (DKD) and albuminuria receiving standard of care treatment.
Trial of Tocilizumab for Treatment of Severe COVID-19: ARCHITECTS
The overall objective is to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of tocilizumab relative to placebo among approximately 300 hospitalized adult patients who have severe COVID-19. The study will be a 2 arm double blinded comparison between tocilizumab 8 mg/kg and matching placebo IV. The dose may be repeated in 8-12 hours if clinical symptoms worsens, (e.g. increase in oxygen requirements). Participants will be followed for 28 days.
Assessment of the Efficacy, Safety, and Tolerability of AVP-786 for the Treatment of Agitation in Patients With Dementia of the Alzheimer's Type
This study will be conducted to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of AVP-786 (deudextromethorphan hydrobromide [d6-DM]/quinidine sulfate [Q]) compared to placebo for the treatment of agitation in participants with dementia of the Alzheimer's type.
Octagam 10% Therapy in COVID-19 Patients With Severe Disease Progression
This is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicenter, Phase 3 study to evaluate if high-dose Octagam 10% therapy can stabilize or improve clinical status in patients with severe Coronavirus disease
Study of Pharmacodynamics and Safety of DGAT2i and ACCi Coadministered in Participants With Sponsor-defined Presumed Non Alcoholic Steatohepatitis
The study will evaluate the effect of coadministration of a range of doses of DGAT2i with 1 dose of ACCi, on hepatic steatosis and the ability of DGAT2i to mitigate ACCi-induced elevations in serum triglycerides. The study has a 2-part design with sequential conduct of Part 1 and Part 2 with each part conducted in distinct/separate cohorts of participants. The overall study design, objectives/endpoints, eligibility criteria for both parts is envisioned to be identical, however, data from Part 1 ...
Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation for Post-Cesarean Pain Control
Purpose of study is to evaluate the efficacy of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) for post-operative pain control after a cesarean delivery compared to placebo and no TENS.
NCI COVID-19 in Cancer Patients, NCCAPS Study
This study collects blood samples, medical information, and medical images from patients who are being treated for cancer and have a positive test for SARS CoV-2, the new coronavirus that causes the disease called COVID-19. Collecting blood samples, medical information, and medical images may help researchers determine how COVID-19 affects the outcomes of patients undergoing cancer treatment and how having cancer affects COVID-19.

Study to Describe the Safety, Tolerability, Immunogenicity, and Efficacy of RNA Vaccine Candidates Against COVID-19 in Healthy Individuals
This is a Phase 1/2/3, randomized, placebo-controlled, observer-blind, dose-finding, vaccine candidate-selection, and efficacy study in healthy individuals. The study consists of 2 parts: Phase 1: to identify preferred vaccine candidate(s) and dose level(s); Phase 2/3: an expanded cohort and efficacy part. The study will evaluate the safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity of 2 different SARS CoV 2 RNA vaccine candidates against COVID 19 and the efficacy of 1 candidate: As a 2-dose (separate ...
Testing the Effects of Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) on Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy (CIPN)
This phase II trial studies the effects of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) for the treatment of peripheral neuropathy caused by chemotherapy, often called chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). Peripheral neuropathy refers to the conditions that result when nerves that carry messages to and from the brain and spinal cord from and to the rest of the body are damaged or diseased. The TENS device emits high frequency electrical stimulation through the skin and may pro ...
Circumferential Compression STITCH Repairs of Complex and Horizontal Cleavage Meniscal Tears
The purpose of this study is to understand the benefits and safety of the NOVOSTITCH PRO Meniscal Repair (NOVOSTITCH PRO) system. The meniscus is a tissue in the knee joint. The NOVOSTITCH PRO is used during surgery to fix meniscus tears in the knee. It is unknown whether fixing a meniscus tear is better than the approach of removing the tear. Data will be collected on participants prior to surgery, at surgery, and for 2 years after surgery.
Pilot Clinical Trial of the Safety and Efficacy of Telmisartan for the Mitigation of Pulmonary and Cardiac Complications in COVID-19 Patients
This study will enroll 40 symptomatic outpatients tested positive for Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19). Patients to be randomized 1:1 to Telmisartan (40 mg) vs placebo to be administered orally once daily x 21 days. Daily, the study patients will be asked to keep a record of the severity of their fever, dyspnea and fatigue and take their blood pressure (BP) and temperature. Study visits to occur on day 1 (entry), day 4, day 10 and day 21. Oro-pharyngeal swabs, and approximately 25 cc of blood will be ...
