Low Intensity Focused Ultrasound: a New Paradigm for Depression and Anxiety
Recruiting
Objective: Preliminary studies show that low intensity focused ultrasound (LIFU), a new type of non invasive brain stimulation (NIBS), may be able to reach deep structures of the brain involved with depression and anxiety, that remain inaccessible using current forms of NIBS with precision. In this study, the investigators will test if this technique can be used to change brain activity in areas that are connected to depression and anxiety symptoms. The primary objectives of this study are to te... Read More

Acute Neural and Immune Effects of Alcohol in People Living With HIV Infection
Recruiting
This study will examine whether moderate alcohol use in the context of HIV infection exacerbates inflammatory signaling in the immune system and brain. The study will recruit healthy individuals and people living with HIV infection who are otherwise in good health to participate. Participants will complete an experimental protocol that involves controlled alcohol administration and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Primary outcomes are plasma biomarkers of inflammation and MRI markers correlated... Read More

Open Label Placebo to Reduce Prescription Opioid Use
Recruiting
The goal of the proposed study is to examine the efficacy of using an honest placebo to relieve pain for patients with an acute pain condition. People with acute pain will receive their standard dose of opioid medication for pain management. In addition, some people will be asked to take placebo pills, honestly described as placebos, as well. Patients will answer a few short questions over the phone once per day for seven days about pain and opioid use. The investigators hypothesize that partici... Read More

Brief Acceptance-Based Retention Intervention for Newly Diagnosed HIV Patients
Recruiting
The overall aim of this program of research is to test a newly developed intervention, Acceptance-Based Behavior Therapy (ABBT), to improve HIV patients' commitment to medical care.
The purpose of the proposed project is to establish the efficacy of ABBT and examine its mechanisms of action. To achieve the specific aims, the investigators will conduct a randomized clinical trial (n = 270), with two treatment arms: ABBT vs. an attention-matched HIV education control condition.

Improving Mental Health Among the LGBTQ+ Community
Recruiting
The overall aim of this program of research is to improve the mental health of people who identify as LGBTQ+ by increasing their social support through a brief intervention. The purpose of the proposed project is to establish the effectiveness of our empirically-supported, brief acceptance-based behavioral therapy (ABBT). To achieve the specific aims, the investigators will conduct a fully-powered, randomized clinical trial (n=240) with two treatment arms: treatment-as-usual (TAU) vs. ABBT.
