Iowa is currently home to 813 active clinical trials, seeking participants for engagement in research studies. These trials take place at a variety of cities in the state, including Iowa City, Des Moines, Sioux City and Cedar Rapids. Whether you're a healthy volunteer interested in paid medical research or someone seeking trials related to a specific condition, the state offers a diverse array of opportunities in your vicinity.
Does the Use of a Genomic Tumor Board Increase the Number of Patients Who Receive Genome-Informed Treatment
Recruiting
This clinical trial studies how well an educationally enhanced genomic tumor board (EGTB) intervention works to increase the number of patients with solid tumors that have come back (recurrent), do not respond to treatment (refractory), have spread to other parts of the body (metastatic), or are newly diagnosed and spread to other parts of the body (advanced) who receive genome-informed treatment. Genome-informed treatment refers to treatment based on the information found in genomic tumor test... Read More

A Study of TSR-022 in Participants With Advanced Solid Tumors (AMBER)
Recruiting
This is a first-in-human study evaluating the anti-T cell immunoglobulin and mucin containing protein-3 (TIM-3) antibody TSR-022. The study will be conducted in 2 parts with Part 1 consisting of dose escalation and Part 2 dose expansion. Part 1 will determine the recommended Phase 2 dose (RP2D) of TSR-022 and Part 2 will evaluate the antitumor activity of TSR-022 in combination with TSR-042 or docetaxel and as monotherapy.

Parent SMART (Substance Misuse in Adolescents in Residential Treatment)
Recruiting
Adolescents in residential substance use treatment have serious substance-related problems and poor outcomes following discharge: follow-up studies indicate that 60% of adolescents treated in residential treatment will relapse within the first 90 days. Parenting practices have been established as a critical predictor of adolescents' substance use outcomes and likelihood of relapse following treatments, but parents are notoriously difficult to engage in adolescent substance use treatment. Finding... Read More

I-SPY COVID-19 TRIAL: An Adaptive Platform Trial for Critically Ill Patients
Recruiting
The goal of this project is to rapidly screen promising agents, in the setting of an adaptive platform trial, for treatment of critically ill COVID-19 patients. In this phase 2 platform design, agents will be identified with a signal suggesting a big impact on reducing mortality and the need for, as well as duration, of mechanical ventilation.

Evaluation of the Walk With Ease Program for Fall Prevention
Recruiting
The study will use a randomized controlled trial design to evaluate the potential of incorporating physical therapy exercises (primary prevention strategy) within an evidence-based intervention called Walk with Ease to reduce falls and fall risk in older, community-dwelling older adults. The integrated process and outcome evaluation will determine the relative effectiveness of individually prescribed exercises (compared to standardized exercises) as well as the potential of 'habit training' reso... Brain Enhancement Training Towards Elders Resilience to Aging, Phase IIB
Recruiting
This study aims to examine the longer-term benefits of a novel, neuroplasticity-based, computerized and web-deliverable training program (PACR-CT) five years from the initial 10 weeks of training from our Phase II study - Protocol #: PSC-0605-17 (Aim 1) and test the interactive effect of previous training and 10 weeks of booster training (Aim 2). Both the study and the software being investigated meet the criteria of Non-Significant Risk.

The ED-AWARENESS-2 Trial
Recruiting
The investigators will screen all mechanically ventilated ED patients for study eligibility and will enroll all consecutive patients satisfying inclusion and exclusion criteria. The study design is a pragmatic, multicenter, stepped wedge cluster randomized trial, enrolling at five sites over a 3-year period, divided into six time periods of six months. Prior to the study, each site will be randomized to their position within the design. One site will cross to the intervention period (i.e. succi... Read More

A Study of Soticlestat as an Add-on Therapy in Children and Adults With Dravet Syndrome or Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome
Recruiting
The main aim of the study is to learn if soticlestat, when given as an add-on therapy, reduces the number of seizures in children and adults with Dravet Syndrome (DS) or Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (LGS). Participants will receive their standard anti-seizure therapy, plus tablets of soticlestat. There will be scheduled visits and follow-up phone calls throughout the study.

COVID-19 Coagulopathy Extension Study
Recruiting
At the University of Iowa, the investigators led a multicenter randomized clinical trial comparing standard prophylactic dose to intermediate dose enoxaparin in hospitalized patients with COVID-19 (NCT04360824). As part of an exploratory biomarker component of this trial, blood samples were collected from hospitalized COVID-19 patients at enrollment and weekly for up to 30 days of hospitalization. The pilot results, as well as reports from other groups, demonstrate increased potential for thromb... Read More
