The Increase of Lung Capacity Using the Lung Master (Pulmonary Exerciser)
Recruiting
Investigators are studying how a device called The Lung Master device can help people breathe better. The investigational device increases the amount of air our lungs can hold, which is important for overall lung health. The Lung Master is not approved by the FDA.
The study has two visits approximately one month apart. In the first visit participants will take a spirometry test, particularly forced vital capacity (FVC), to measure volume change in the lungs. Participants will take the investiga... Read More

Viral Infection in Asthma (VIA) Study
Recruiting
Often when people with asthma get a virus caused by the common cold (rhinovirus), they also experience an increase or worsening of their asthma symptoms. The purpose of this study is to see if the study medication dupilumab helps prevent those with mild to moderate asthma from having increased asthma symptoms, after being exposed to an experimental rhinovirus inoculation. This is a study about dupilumab which is a drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treatment of mode... Read More

Vitamin C to Decrease Effects of Smoking in Pregnancy on Infant Lung Function (VCSIP) Longer Term Follow Up
Recruiting
The overall aims of this protocol are to determine whether prenatal supplementation with vitamin C to pregnant smokers can improve pulmonary function at 10 years of age in their offspring. This is an additional continuation of the Vitamin C to Decrease Effects of Smoking in Pregnancy on Infant Lung Function (VCSIP) trial, to follow the offspring through 10 years of age. The hypothesis for this protocol is an extension of the VCSIP trial that supplemental vitamin C in pregnant smokers can signifi... Read More

Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Receptor Agonist in the Treatment of Adult, Obesity-related, Symptomatic Asthma (GATA-3)
Recruiting
This is a randomized placebo-controlled trial of semaglutide, an FDA-approved therapy for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity, in adults with symptomatic asthma despite the use of inhaled steroids and with excess body weight. This study will test the central hypothesis that semaglutide will improve asthma control and reduce airway inflammation due to direct effects on the respiratory tract in adult asthma associated with obesity.

Eliminating inappropriate antibiotic use in pediatric lower respiratory tract infections (LRTI) is the central focus of this research. LRTIs (pneumonia, bronchiolitis, and infection-related exacerbations of asthma) account for nearly one-third of all emergency department (ED) visits and 40% of all infection-related hospitalizations in US children. LRTIs also account for more antibiotic use in children's hospitals than any other condition, despite most LRTIs being viral in nature. Inappropriate a... Read More
