There are currently 35 active clinical trials seeking participants for COPD research studies. The states with the highest number of trials for COPD participants are Florida, California, Texas and South Carolina.
High Resolution Micro OCT Imaging
Recruiting
The purpose of this study is to learn about using the imaging to make images of the lungs and nose with the long-term goal of the research leading to potential treatments and new therapies for patients with cystic fibrosis.

Identifying Right Ventricular Dysfunction in COPD Through Right Heart Catheterization, Imaging and Exercise
Recruiting
This study plans to learn more about heart function among individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). In particular, the investigators want to understand the different patterns of right ventricular response to pulmonary hypertension (high pressure in the lungs) during rest and exercise. By identifying patterns of right ventricular dysfunction, this study will help identify better treatments for patients with COPD in the future.

Prospective, Observational Study of Wellinks Effect on COPD Hospital Readmissions
Recruiting
This prospective, observational study is designed to investigate clinical outcomes and collect patient feedback on the use of Wellinks, an integrated virtual chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) management solution, for patients recently discharged from the hospital due to an acute exacerbation of their COPD.

Relationship of Inflammation and Pulmonary Function to Fungal Translocation in HIV
Recruiting
The investigator will study the origin of fungal translocation in HIV, its relationship to the mycobiome, and its relationship to lung function and inflammation. Supported by the preliminary data and published studies, this project is based on the premise that circulating BDG derived from microbial translocation stimulates inflammation and worsens lung function in PWH. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a significant public health problem with few therapies that modify disease traj... Read More

A Study of Patients With Chronic Disease
Recruiting
TARGET-RWE is a 10-year, international, longitudinal, observational study of patients with chronic disease designed to specifically address important clinical questions that remain incompletely answered from registration trials. The protocol will follow a master protocol design in which a shared study infrastructure supports progressive development of the registry across the spectrum of chronic diseases.

The Development of an Integrated Physical Activity and Mental Health Intervention for Veterans With COPD, Emotion Distress, and Low Physical Activity
Recruiting
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is prevalent and debilitating chronic disease in Veterans. COPD is highly co-morbid with depression and anxiety conferring greater morbidity and mortality risk. Physical activity is a modifiable behavior that can improve COPD outcomes. However, to date, interventions targeting physical activity have not addressed the high comorbidity between COPD and depression and/or anxiety symptoms ("emotional distress") despite emotional distress predicting poorer... Evaluation of Home-based Sensor System to Detect Health Decompensation in Elderly Patients With History of CHF or COPD
Recruiting
Sensorum Health (Sensorum) is conducting a pilot study to determine if Sensorum's proprietary passive sensor network can be used to identify signals of early health decompensation in subjects prior to a hospitalization for chronic disease exacerbation or other ambulatory care sensitive conditions. Successful early detection would provide a window of opportunity to intervene outside of the acute setting in future interventional studies.

Informatics Framework for Pulmonary Rehabilitation
Recruiting
Previous studies clearly established clinical benefits of pulmonary rehabilitation in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease however uptake and completion rate of pulmonary rehabilitation programs by these patients is limited by multiple barriers. The goal of this project to systematically evaluate impact of Comprehensive Health Informatics Engagement Framework for Pulmonary Rehabilitation (CHIEF-PR) in a randomized controlled trial. The main hypothesis is that CHIEF-PR will result... Read More

Lung Macrophage Populations and Functions in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)-Susceptible Smokers
Recruiting
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a heterogeneous disease that affects only a fraction of those who smoke tobacco. The origin of this variability in susceptibility to develop COPD is unclear, but understanding its underlying biology has important implications for our ability to design suitable preventative and therapeutic strategies for its management. This Department of Defense (DOD) discovery research proposes to develop methodologies and generate preliminary data needed to lay t... Read More
