This study is designed to assess the feasibility that individualized reminiscence-based virtual music therapy sessions can enhance autobiographical memory, mood, and cognition in patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or mild dementia due to Alzheimer's Disease (AD). 60 patients with MCI or mild dementia due to AD will receive two 30 minutes reminiscence-targeted virtual music therapy interventions per week for 8 weeks (a total of 16 sessions). Participants' (or supported by the study partner) self-reported and measurable outcomes including cognitive, anxiety, quality of life, and autobiographical memory will be assessed before and after the 8-week course of treatment. Blood-oxygenation level-dependent (BOLD) in functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) will also be also measured before and after the 8-week course of treatment. Read Less

Patients with bloodstream infections (sepsis) have been found in prior studies to have infection-related heart dysfunction, even if they did not have preexisting heart problems. Factors related to the infection may cause the heart to not pump as well as it should, causing critical illness in the form of low blood pressure (shock) and heart failure. Ultrasound is frequently used in the emergency department to evaluate why a patient might have low blood pressure. Part of that evaluation may include obtaining ultrasound images and making measurements about how well or poorly the heart is pumping. The investigators will evaluate a certain measurement that relates to cardiac function, determine how it changes in patients before and after they are treated for septic shock. This will involve placing an ultrasound probe on the patient's chest, measuring the upward and downward movement of the mitral valve, the mitral annulus systolic plane excursion (MAPSE), and comparing the measurements before and after treatment is started. This study involves evaluating a combination of chemotherapy drugs known as "CLAG-GO" \[cladribine, cytarabine, granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) and gemtuzumab ozogamicin (GO)\] in the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) that has not responded well to standard therapy or has returned after an initial remission (relapsed). The trial will be conducted at the University of Maryland Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center (UMGCCC). Potential participants will go through a screening period to see if they are eligible to join the study. If eligible, participants will be hospitalized for 4-5 weeks to receive study treatment with CLAG-GO, called induction chemotherapy. If tests show that the cancer is in remission after induction chemotherapy, participants may undergo further chemotherapy (known as consolidation) or may proceed with bone marrow/stem cell transplantation. Patients who receive consolidation chemotherapy and remain in remission may have up to 8 cycles of outpatient maintenance therapy. A cycle lasts about 28 days. All participants will be monitored carefully for both side effects and to see if the study treatment is working. Lab tests and exams will be conducted throughout the entire study. In addition, special studies will be done at various time points to try to understand better how the drugs work and which patients are likely to respond best. Read Less

This is an observational, longitudinal, prospective study for sample collection and evaluation for future therapy or disease progression of chronic hepatitis B and C. Participants will be seen on an annual basis with optional additional visits for up to 10 years and provide samples for research and evaluation of disease progression. In addition, there is a longitudinal sub-study for treatment of hepatitis B that will involve 2 years of treatment with tenofovir alafenamide and blood collections with optional liver biopsies. The proposed study is a randomized clinical trial. The overarching goal of the study is to apply Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR) to reduce tobacco use among youth and young adults (14-21 y/o) in Baltimore City through a mixed-method approach adapted to the needs of youth and young adults. This study has partnered with the American Lung Association's Not On Tobacco (N-O-T) program and aims to deliver tobacco cessation classes. The study will target Baltimore City high schools and colleges, prioritizing facilities in underserved inner-city communities. The proposed research consists of a 2-arm trial where participants from four high schools and two colleges will be randomized to peer-facilitated tobacco cessation classes or self-navigated groups. The trial aims to assess the effectiveness of peer-facilitated tobacco cessation intervention compared to self-navigated tobacco cessation in terms of their success rates (quitting and staying quit). The study's primary hypothesis is that the tobacco cessation rate will be equal to or higher in the peer-facilitated arm than in the self-navigated arms. The secondary hypothesis is that the retention rate will be equal to or higher in the peer-facilitated arm compared to the self-navigated arm. CEASE Youth tobacco cessation program is an eight-week program based on the American Lung Association's (ALA) Not On Tobacco (N-O-T) program. The ALA's N-OT program is acknowledged as an accessible and effective option for teen tobacco cessation. Participants in the peer-facilitated group will be given the evidence-based N-O-T program curriculum and provided with virtual materials, information, and resources by their assigned peer facilitators. Virtual tobacco cessation peer motivation sessions will be offered using the digital online platform Zoom, and the peer facilitators will communicate with the participants in between the classes. The participants in the self-navigated group will receive the same ALA N-O-T program curriculum and complete the eight-week sessions, but it will be self-navigated and without peer facilitations. No peer facilitator will be assigned to this group, and the participants will complete the curriculum by themselves. They will also receive other available resources, including information about the local tobacco cessation services available. Read Less
