Antecedent Metabolic Health and Metformin Aging Study
Recruiting
Aging is the number one risk factor for the majority of chronic diseases. There are no pharmaceutical treatments to slow aging and prolong healthspan. The anti-diabetic drug metformin is considered a likely pharmaceutical candidate to slow aging. In this study, the investigators hypothesize that metformin treatment in subjects free of type 2 diabetes will improve insulin sensitivity and glucoregulation in insulin resistant individuals, but will decrease insulin sensitivity and glucoregulation in... Singing and Cardiovascular Health in Older Adults
Recruiting
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) claims more lives each year than cancer and chronic respiratory disease combined. Participation in cardiac rehabilitation (CR) reduces mortality and risk of a major cardiovascular event in secondary prevention populations, including older adults. Older adults are less likely to participate in CR, as comorbidities in this population, including arthritis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, make participation difficult. Singing is a physical activity that involve... Read More

Genetic Variants and Susceptibility to Diseases of Prematurity in Very Low Birth-Weight Infants
Recruiting
The purpose of this study is to determine if sequence variations in genes involved in the development and function of vulnerable organs increases susceptibility to chronic lung disease (CLD) and other diseases affecting premature infants, such as necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), sepsis, patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) and intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH). The study will also determine whether measurement of certain biomarkers in serum will identify infants who will develop these complications of... Read More

Role of Autophagy in Type 2 Diabetes Microvascular Dysfunction
Recruiting
The goal of this clinical trial is to examine the role of autophagy on microvascular function in adults with Type 2 Diabetes. The main question it aims to answer are:
Does presence of Type 2 Diabetes reduce autophagy and impair microvascular function?
Does exposure to high glucose impair autophagy and subsequently microvascular function?
Participants will undergo 2 study days. The primary outcome will be in vivo microvascular function testing. Following the first study day participants will un... Read More

Implementation of an Evidence Based Parentally Administered Intervention for Preterm Infants
Recruiting
Early developmentally-based behavioral intervention has well-established positive effects and is recommended as the standard of care to support early brain maturation, health, and development. However, few neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) provide this early intervention. H-HOPE (Hospital to Home: Optimizing the Preterm Infant's Environment) has established efficacy, and has a standardized protocol, making it ready for widespread implementation. The infant-directed component of H-HOPE provid... Read More

Cobimetinib in Refractory Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH), and Other Histiocytic Disorders
Recruiting
This is a research study of a drug called cobimetinib in children and adults diagnosed with Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH), and other histiocytic disorders that has returned or does not respond to treatment. Cobimetinib blocks activation of a protein called Mitogen-activated protein kinase (MEK) that is part of incorrect growth signals in histiocytosis cells. Four different groups of patients will be enrolled.
