Texas is currently home to 4891 active clinical trials, seeking participants for engagement in research studies. These trials take place at a variety of cities in the state, including Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and Austin. Whether you're a healthy volunteer interested in paid medical research or someone seeking trials related to a specific condition, the state offers a diverse array of opportunities in your vicinity.
Harnessing Neuroplasticity of Postural Sensorimotor Networks Using Non-Invasive Spinal Neuromodulation to Maximize Functional Recovery After Spinal Cord Injury
Recruiting
It has been demonstrated that the human lumbosacral spinal cord can be neuromodulated with epidural (ESS) and transcutaneous (TSS) spinal cord stimulation to enable recovery of standing and volitional control of the lower limbs after complete motor paralysis due to spinal cord injury (SCI). The work proposed herein will examine and identify distinct electrophysiological mechanisms underlying transcutaneous spinal stimulation (TSS) and epidural spinal stimulation (ESS) to define how these approac... Palatal Volumetric Change Analysis Following Connective Tissue Graft With and Without Donor Site Augmentation
Recruiting
The goal of this randomized clinical trial is to compare whether soft tissue augmentation placed in the donor site following a gum graft harvesting leads to volumetric changes compared to non-augmented sites in the palate. The main questions it aims to answer are: * Are there tissue thickness changes between the two groups (control group and augmentation group)? * Are there volumetric changes in the donor site (palate) between the two groups in the short and long term? Participants will receive... Read More

Establishing the Chaplain Role in a Primary Care Clinic Setting
Recruiting
In 2019, a full-time chaplain was placed in the Golden Cross Academic Clinic (GCAC), with the chaplain's focus being in the primary care internal medicine department. While research exists regarding chaplains in the inpatient setting, research regarding the presence of a full-time chaplain in a primary care setting as well as the topics patients discuss with that chaplain are limited.

Review of Breast Abscess Management
Recruiting
Breast abscesses are an unfortunate pathology that develop in patients, and treatment is often painful and unpleasant. The goal of this study is to identify risk factors associated with failure of aspiration as a primary intervention as opposed to incision and drainage in the hopes of adequately treating patients at initial presentation.

Massive Transfusion in Trauma Patient Registry
Recruiting
The early use of blood products as a part of Massive Transfusion Protocol (MTP) during trauma resuscitation has been increasingly supported by providers and backed by the literature. However, the incidence of hypocalcemia during MTP has also been recorded and continues to be studied as an exacerbating factor in coagulopathy during trauma.

Decreasing Post-Operative Nausea and Vomiting in the Bariatric Surgical Patient
Recruiting
From the research and current studies, post-operative nausea and vomiting is a common complaint after bariatric surgery. Nausea relief inhalers could improve post-operative nausea and vomiting without the need for further medications, subsequently reducing the chance of side effects. This study could help improve patient satisfaction and increase the ability of the patient to ambulate after surgery with the use of a nausea relief inhaler.

Transdermal Optical Imaging (TOI) as a Non-invasive Measure to Detect Changes in Hydration Status in Healthy Adults and Athletes
Recruiting
The primary objective of this study is to analyze smart phone-based Transdermal Optical Imaging (TOI) features to develop a model that can discern hydration status, including: 1) at various timepoints throughout a 24-hour period in healthy adults from the general population (GENPOP), and 2) before and after a team coach-led training session in athletes competing in a sport (ATHLETE). TOI data will be collected alongside standard reference measures of hydration status. In this study each subject... Read More

The Texas Interprofessional Pharmacogenomics (IPGx)
Recruiting
The investigator's primary aim is to evaluate polypharmacy-associated adverse drug reactions (ADR) in a pilot study of at-risk patients using state-of-the-art pharmacogenomic technology and to use this information to make recommendations for optimization of pharmacotherapy regimens. The data from the pilot cohort will be used to optimize and integrate a customized electronic decision support (clinical semantic network; CSN) dashboard to identify drug regimens that should be modified, replaced, o...
