Preventing Alzheimer's With Cognitive Training
Recruiting
Dementia is the most expensive medical condition in the US and increases in prevalence with age. More than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's disease, the most common form of dementia. Mild cognitive impairment is a transitional stage between normal cognitive aging and Alzheimer's disease or another type of dementia, and is indicative of higher risk for dementia. In addition to the obvious health and quality-of-life ramifications of dementia, there are high direct (e.g., subsidizing residentia... Read More

Frataxin mRNA in Biofluids
Recruiting
The purpose of this research study is to determine a way to measure frataxin messenger RNA (mRNA) in fluids such as blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from patients with Friedreich's ataxia (FRDA). The gene mutation in FRDA leads to low levels of the mRNA and then low levels of the protein frataxin that leads to the disease. Treatments being developed for FRDA have the ability increase these levels including in brain where it is needed. Currently, there is no accepted way to measure frataxin pr... Read More

Computerized Intervention Targeting the Error-Related Negativity and Balance N1 in Anxious Children
Recruiting
Anxiety disorders are the most common form of psychopathology, and frequently begin in childhood, resulting in lifelong impairment. Increased brain activity after making mistakes, as reflected by the error-related negativity (ERN), is observed in people with anxiety disorders, even before disorder onset. The ERN is therefore of great interest as a potentially modifiable risk factor for anxiety. However, methodological issues can make the ERN difficult to measure. Increased brain activity in res... Assessing the Effect of Nicotine Reduction on ENDS User's Addiction and Exposures
Recruiting
The rapid increase of electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) use by young people in the US and their potential to harm health, cause addiction, and serve as a risk for cigarette smoking or dual-use is alarming. The epidemic of ENDS use among young people in the US has been associated with the rise in popularity of ENDS products that are very efficient in delivering high doses of nicotine to users. Therefore, the investigators propose to study the effects of nicotine reduction (NR) on young... Read More
