Massachusetts is currently home to 3204 active clinical trials, seeking participants for engagement in research studies. These trials take place at a variety of cities in the state, including Boston, Worcester, Springfield and Burlington. Whether you're a healthy volunteer interested in paid medical research or someone seeking trials related to a specific condition, the state offers a diverse array of opportunities in your vicinity.
Radiation Therapy With Protons or Photons in Treating Patients With Liver Cancer
Recruiting
This phase III trial studies how well radiation therapy with protons works compared with photons in treating patients with liver cancer. Radiation therapy, such as photon therapy, uses high energy x-rays to send the radiation inside the body to the tumor while proton therapy uses a beam of proton particles. Proton therapy can stop shortly after penetrating through the tumor and may cause less damage to the surrounding healthy organs and result in better survival in patients with liver cancer.

Improving Clinical Efficiency by Reducing Scheduled Follow-ups Using Cochlear America's Population Mean Mapping Strategy
Recruiting
The study is about the importance of each follow-up visit after activating a new cochlear implant in addition to evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of a new programming strategy from Cochlear Americas. Investigators are looking for patients who have recently selected Cochlear Americas as their cochlear implant manufacturer of choice for their upcoming surgery. The aim of this study is to determine if 1) patient outcomes remain stable when reducing follow-up appointments and 2) Cochlear'... Read More

Tracing the Metabolic Flux of Orally Administered NAD+ Precursors
Recruiting
We are doing this research to learn how healthy younger and older adults use two forms of vitamin B3-called nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) and nicotinamide (NAM)-to make NAD+. NAD+ is a natural substance that cells need for energy and other important processes. Our goal is to find out how these NAD precursors are absorbed and metabolized and how they raise NAD+ in different tissues. Who can join? Healthy adults men and women aged 18 to 40 (younger group) or 65 and older (older group) Partici... Read More

Treating Parkinson's Disease Through Transplantation of Autologous Stem Cell-Derived Dopaminergic Neurons
Recruiting
The goal of this clinical trial is to assess the safety and tolerability of the surgical transplantation of dopaminergic progenitor cells into the brains of participants with Parkinson's disease. The transplanted dopaminergic cells will be derived from the participant's own skin cells.

A Retrospective and Prospective Natural History of Genetic Vasculopathies
Recruiting
This study will combine retrospective review of medical records from patients with ACTA2 and ongoing collection of clinical data using standardized instruments and intervals on an observational basis from patients with ACTA2. Patients in cohorts 1-3 will be asked to attend clinic visits in person per the schedule of events. At minimum, the medical records of patients with ACTA2 will be reviewed to record data on aspects of the disease, including disease characteristics and developmental milesto... Read More

Digital Sleep Optimization for Brain Health Outcomes in Older Surgical Patients
Recruiting
The Sleep Optimization for Brain Health Outcomes in Older Surgical Patients (SLEEP-BOOST) is a pilot randomized, controlled, singled-blinded (participant) trial in major orthopedic joint surgery patients that will build on a previously clinically tested cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) mobile application paired with a wearable device (wrist actigraphy).

APPRAISE 2.0: Live Trial of the APPRAISE Trauma Decision Support System
Recruiting
This is a pilot evaluation of the APPRAISE trauma decision-support software system ("the System"). The specific objections are as follows: 1. Evaluate the robustness of the System (i.e., whether the software performs in real-time in accordance with a priori technical specifications during real-time clinical use); 2. Evaluate whether the real-time display of the System causes distraction or confusion to clinicians treating the trauma patient such that its risks exceed its benefits; 3. Collect pi... Read More

Vagus Nerve Stimulation(VNS) As Treatment For Fibromyalgia Patients
Recruiting
Fibromyalgia (FM) is a syndrome with clinical symptoms involving multiple systems. The efficacy of current treatments is inadequate, and more alternative modalities are needed for the management of FM patients. The parasympathetic vagus nerve innervates and integrates sensory, motor, and autonomic systems and has been suggested to play a role in pain modulation. The role of vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) as a treatment option for FM patients is yet to be investigated. The investigators propose to... Read More

Mucolipidosis Type IV Natural History Study
Recruiting
The primary objectives of the study are: to describe the characteristics of the current international MLIV population; to define the median age at which patients with MLIV achieve or lose developmental milestones; to define the natural history of MLIV for the Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) (Morris and Bartlett, 2004) and the MLIV specific scale and test the validity of retrospectively applying these scales to medical record data; to define the rate of visual decline in patien...
