Colorado is currently home to 1921 active clinical trials, seeking participants for engagement in research studies. These trials take place at a variety of cities in the state, including Denver, Aurora, Colorado Springs and Englewood. Whether you're a healthy volunteer interested in paid medical research or someone seeking trials related to a specific condition, the state offers a diverse array of opportunities in your vicinity.
Prospective Evaluation of PRP and BMC Treatment to Accelerate Healing After ACL Reconstruction
Recruiting
This is a prospective, randomized, placebo-controlled trial to evaluate potential beneficial effects of leukocyte-poor platelet rich plasma and bone marrow concentrate on the healing and health of critical joint tissues in the knee following anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. Bone marrow contains stem cells which can change into cells of various different tissue types, while platelet rich plasma contains growth factors. This trial will compare the two procedures against placebo.

Effect of Montelukast on Kidney and Vascular Function in Type 1 Diabetes
Recruiting
Kidney disease is a common problem among people with type 1 diabetes and can lead to disability, dialysis, and early death. Inflammation plays a key role in the development of kidney disease in type 1 diabetes and targeting leukotrienes, inflammatory chemicals the body releases in response to allergic reactions, may represent a promising therapy to slow the progression of diabetic kidney disease. The current proposal will investigate whether montelukast, a leukotriene blocker, lowers increased l... Read More

Etonogestrel Implant as Emergency Contraception
Recruiting
The investigators propose a single site, single arm, open label mechanism of action pharmacodynamic pilot study of etonogestrel implant insertion prior to an luteinizing hormone (LH) surge. The investigators will evaluate ovulation rates via serum levels of reproductive hormones and transvaginal ultrasound findings following placement of an etonogestrel implant once the dominant follicle reaches a size of 15mm or greater, but prior to an LH surge, in persons with prior documented regular cycles... Effect of Alkali Therapy on Vascular and Graft Function in Kidney Transplant Recipients
Recruiting
Lower serum bicarbonate levels, even within the normal laboratory range, in kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) are associated with an increased risk of graft loss, cardiovascular events and mortality. Because acid retention is common in KTRs, it is plausible that alkali therapy in KTRs may also result in improved vascular and graft function. The investigators will perform a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled, 12 month study in 120 KTRs to examine the effect of sodium bicarbonate the... Read More

Countermeasures to Circadian Misalignment
Recruiting
Insufficient sleep and circadian misalignment are independent risk factors for the development of obesity and diabetes, yet few strategies exist to counter metabolic impairments when these behaviors are unavoidable. This project will examine whether avoiding food intake during the biological night can mitigate the impact of circadian misalignment on metabolic homeostasis in adults during simulated night shift work. Findings from this study could identify a translatable strategy to minimize meta... Read More

Registry of Patients With a Diagnosis of Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA)
Recruiting
Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a neurogenetic disorder caused by a loss or mutation in the survival motor neuron 1 gene (SMN1) on chromosome 5q13, which leads to reduced SMN protein levels and a selective dysfunction of motor neurons. SMA is an autosomal recessive, early childhood disease with an incidence of 1:10,000 live births. SMA is the leading cause of infant mortality due to genetic diseases. Until recently, the mainstay of treatment for these patients was supportive medical care. Howe... Read More

Consistently Assess Signs and Symptom of Heart Failure
Recruiting
Heart failure (HF) is a major public health problem. The New York Heart Association (NYHA) Functional Classification by a HF provider helps to guide their decisions in patient treatment. The purpose of this study is to further examine the NYHA Classification Guide that is designed to assist healthcare providers. The investigators will conduct the study in the outpatient clinic setting where adult patients with chronic heart failure are treated. HF providers will be asked to complete the NYHA cla... Read More

Evaluation of Pancreatic Cystic Lesions Via EUS-guided Fine Needle Aspiration With and Without Micro Forceps Biopsies
Recruiting
Pancreatic cystic lesions (PCLs) are a common incidental finding in cross sectional imaging (up to 27% on CT scan and 41% on MRI) and pose a management challenge to physicians. According to society guidelines, PCLs with specific features should prompt additional workup with endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) for cyst characterization as well as cyst sampling. This can help determine if the cyst is mucinous or non-mucinous which has implications for its malignant potential. Cyst fluid has traditionally... Read More

Quality of Life Assessment of Chronic Pancreatitis Endoscopic Interventions
Recruiting
This study seeks to evaluate the effect of endoscopic interventions on quality of life in patients with chronic pancreatitis. Quality of life will be evaluated using the PANQOLI, a validated quality of life instrument specific to chronic pancreatitis. Endoscopic interventions will include pancreatic duct dilation and stenting, celiac plexus block, lithotripsy and removal of pancreatic duct stones, and pseudocyst drainage.

Randomized Trial of Fresh Frozen Plasma Versus Albumin in Acute Burn Resuscitation
Recruiting
The investigators propose a prospective randomized trial to study fresh frozen plasma (FFP) versus albumin to determine the optimal colloid in burn resuscitations. This work addresses both FY20 focus areas, prolonged field care (PFC) and en route care, along with mitigating secondary effects of acute intervention, such as prevention of over resuscitation. Future military conflicts anticipate more extensive burn and blast injuries, and delayed evacuation. Therefore, the direct comparison of collo... Read More
