California is currently home to 5600 active clinical trials, seeking participants for engagement in research studies. These trials take place at a variety of cities in the state, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego and Sacramento. Whether you're a healthy volunteer interested in paid medical research or someone seeking trials related to a specific condition, the state offers a diverse array of opportunities in your vicinity.
Fruit and Vegetable Biomarker Discovery
Recruiting
The purpose of this research is to find a set of markers in the blood and/or urine that can be linked to consumption of specific fruits and vegetables. This will allow for better understanding of the link between diet and health-related outcomes. Furthermore, the results of this study will lead to the development of new methods to evaluate the nutritional status of individuals in both community and clinical settings. Food frequency questionnaires and diaries/recalls can be affected by intentiona... Read More

Stand Down-Think Before You Drink: An RCT of a Mobile App for Hazardous Drinking With Peer Phone Support
Recruiting
Hazardous drinking is common among Veteran primary care patients and increases risk for more costly and complex medical problems over the long-term. Yet, the vast majority of these Veterans go untreated. By providing an option for care that is easily accessible, private, and self-directed, mobile applications (apps) circumvent many barriers to alcohol use treatment. However, poor patient engagement remains the Achilles' heel of these apps. Through supportive accountability, Peer Specialists can... Read More

Homeless Veterans and Peer Whole Health Coaching
Recruiting
Use of acute care services (e.g., hospitalizations, Emergency Department visits) contributes substantially to the cost of healthcare for Veterans. Homelessness is a robust social determinant of super utilization of acute care. The goal of this project is to test if Peer Specialists trained in Whole Health Coaching can reduce homeless Veterans' frequent use of acute care.

High Dose-Rate Brachytherapy and Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy for the Treatment of Prostate Adenocarcinoma
Recruiting
This phase II trial investigates the effect of high dose-rate brachytherapy and stereotactic body radiotherapy in treating patients with prostate adenocarcinoma. Brachytherapy, also known as internal radiation therapy, uses radioactive material placed directly into or near a tumor to kill tumor cells. Stereotactic body radiation therapy uses special equipment to position a patient and deliver radiation to tumors with high precision. This method may kill tumor cells with fewer doses over a shorte... Read More

Secondhand Tobacco Smoke and Cardiovascular Disease
Recruiting
This is a double-blind randomized placebo-controlled crossover clinical trial of efficacy and safety of an FDA-approved angiotensin receptor blocker (losartan) to improve cardiopulmonary outcomes in individuals with pre-Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) due to prolonged exposure to secondhand tobacco smoke.

Evaluation of Dosing Procedures of Chemotherapy Treatment (Carboplatin) With the Contrast Agent Iohexol
Recruiting
This trial studies how well iohexol works in helping doctors calculate the dose of carboplatin given to patients with cancer. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as carboplatin, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Understanding how to best calculate the dose of carboplatin given to patients with cancer may help doctors learn how to improve the use of carboplatin in the future.

Abuse Liability and Appeal of Oral Nicotine Products
Recruiting
There has been a recent proliferation of novel oral nicotine products (ONPs) brought to market, including new nicotine gums and pouches. Unlike electronic cigarettes (ECs) ONPs have no impending regulatory barriers with regard to flavoring or nicotine dose, and manufacturers have capitalized on this by introducing an extensive slate of characterizing flavors and nicotine concentrations. Both sales trajectory and the surge in marketing suggest ONP use is likely to increase in the coming years. Wo... Read More

A SMART Evaluation of an Adaptive Web-based AUD Treatment for Service Members and Their Partners
Recruiting
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of an adaptive web intervention (Partners Connect) on military spouse drinking behaviors (CPs) and service member help-seeking (SMs). The investigators want to identify for whom this intervention is most efficacious and on what drinking behaviors and mechanisms. The investigators hypothesize that the intervention will reduce concerned partner drinking and increase service member help-seeking, compared to website resources, and that phone-base... Read More

Valve Hemodynamic Optimization Based on Doppler-Echocardiography vs Catheterization Measurements Following ViV TAVR
Recruiting
Data on valve performance following ViV-TAVR has usually been obtained with the use of Doppler-echocardiography. However, some reports have shown significant discordances in the evaluation of mean transvalvular gradient between echocardiography and catheterization, with an overestimation of the real gradient with echo (vs. cath) in most cases. Thus, the incidence of procedural-device failure may be lower than that reported in the ViV-TAVR literature,

Treatments for Insomnia in Veterans With PTSD
Recruiting
This randomized trial will compare a novel treatment, Acceptance of the Behavioral Changes to Treat Insomnia (ABC-I) to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) among Veterans with comorbid Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and insomnia disorder. ABC-I combines the behavioral components of CBT-I with components of another behavioral therapy (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and has been shown to improve treatment adherence. The study objectives are: 1) to evaluate the benefits of... Read More
