There are currently 281 active clinical trials seeking participants for Depression research studies. The states with the highest number of trials for Autism participants are California, New York, Florida and Pennsylvania.
REstoring Mental Health After SARS-CoV-2 Through commUnity-based Psychological Services in New York City
Recruiting
The goal is to improve mental health of minority and other vulnerable populations disproportionately affected by SARS-CoV-2. The study will evaluate the impact of mental health services on SARS-CoV-2 mitigation strategies such as prevention behaviors, receiving vaccinations, and safe healthcare utilization. Successful completion of this study will contribute to the National Institute of Mental Health Strategic Plan employing implementation science to maximize the public health impact of research... Evaluating the Impact of Focused Muscle Contraction Therapy in U.S. Veterans
Recruiting
This research study is being done to investigate if the GH Method exercise program positively affects body composition, improves physical abilities and can improve the overall sense of wellbeing (e.g. depression, PTSD, etc.) in U.S. Veterans. Subjects will be asked to complete 94 total visits (four (4) study testing visits and 90 exercise visits). Enrolled subjects will be tested for fitness, strength, and health risk factors at UIC 4 times and will complete 90 exercise training visits at the GH... Read More

Optimizing Attentional Bias Modification
Recruiting
Depression has been associated with an attention bias towards negative information. Attention bias modification (ABM) interventions explore potential benefits of training attention away from negative or threatening information and towards neutral or positive information. The goal of this study is to examine the effectiveness of an ABM intervention that includes a preceding mindfulness training among a sample of individuals who self-reported mild-to-moderately depression symptoms. The main questi... Read More

Gut Microbiome and Depression
Recruiting
The purpose of this project is to determine if specific gut microbiome or gut-derived metabolites are associated with depression in patients with Multiple Sclerosis (pwMS). Mechanistically, the investigators further hypothesize that depression in pwMS is related to decreased abundance of gut bacteria with GABA-producing activities and/or with anti-inflammatory properties. To determine if the presence of depression in pwMS is associated with specific gut microbiome, gut-derived metabolites or per... Read More

Approach-Avoidance, Computational Framework for Predicting Behavioral Therapy Outcome (AAC-BeT)
Recruiting
Depression and anxiety disorders rank in the top ten causes of years lived with disability. Less than 50% of patients experiencing long-lasting improvements to current gold-standard treatments. Two gold-standard behavioral interventions include behavioral activation, focused on enhancing approach behavior towards meaningful activities, and exposure-based therapy, focused on decreasing avoidance and challenging negative expectations. While these interventions have divergent treatment targets, the... Read More

Low Intensity Focused Ultrasound: a New Paradigm for Depression and Anxiety
Recruiting
Objective: Preliminary studies show that low intensity focused ultrasound (LIFU), a new type of non invasive brain stimulation (NIBS), may be able to reach deep structures of the brain involved with depression and anxiety, that remain inaccessible using current forms of NIBS with precision. In this study, the investigators will test if this technique can be used to change brain activity in areas that are connected to depression and anxiety symptoms. The primary objectives of this study are to te... Read More

Parenting Young Children Study
Recruiting
Opioid use is rising at unprecedented levels and has reached epidemic proportions in some areas of the country, particularly rural areas. Although research on the detrimental effects of opioid use on parenting and children is relatively new, it is clear that parents with opioid use struggle with a variety of parenting skills, especially contingent responsivity and warmth. As such, to have long-term sustained effects on preventing Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) in parents and to help prevent substance... Read More

Low-Dose Intravenous Ketamine for Adolescents With Depression and Suicidal Ideation in the Emergency Department
Recruiting
The goal of this study is to test whether a single low-dose of IV ketamine given in the emergency department to adolescents with treatment-resistant depression and suicidal ideation can reduce depression symptoms and suicidal thoughts compared to placebo. Participants will complete depression scales at baseline, and 1 hour, 3 hours, 1 day, 3 days, and 7 days after receiving the treatment.

Improving Mental Health Among the LGBTQ+ Community
Recruiting
The overall aim of this program of research is to improve the mental health of people who identify as LGBTQ+ by increasing their social support through a brief intervention. The purpose of the proposed project is to establish the effectiveness of our empirically-supported, brief acceptance-based behavioral therapy (ABBT). To achieve the specific aims, the investigators will conduct a fully-powered, randomized clinical trial (n=240) with two treatment arms: treatment-as-usual (TAU) vs. ABBT.

Effectiveness of an Integrated Treatment to Address Smoking Cessation and Anxiety/ Depression in People Living With HIV
Recruiting
Smokers living with HIV represent a major health disparity population in the United States and the world more generally. Major contributing factors to the maintenance and relapse of smoking among smokers living with HIV include increased exposure to multiple stressors associated with HIV, which often exacerbates anxiety/depression. In a previous project, the feasibility, acceptability, and initial efficacy of a 9-session, cognitive-behavioral-based intervention to address smoking cessation by re... Read More

Nitrous Oxide for the Treatment of Major Depressive Disorder
Recruiting
The investigators are conducting a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the antidepressant effects of nitrous oxide in people with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). MDD is a global medical condition that causes significant health and economic burden. Recent studies have shown that a single dose of ketamine, an NMDA-antagonist, has fast and long lasting anti-depressant effect. Nitrous oxide, another NMDA-antagonist, is widely used for anesthesia and analgesia, safer to administer and has fewer... Read More

Microbiome, Anxiety and Cognitive Orientation Study
Recruiting
Mounting evidence shows that the gut microbiome plays an important role in communication within the gut-brain axis. However, the relationship between gut microbiota and their influence on anxiety is still not fully understood. Recent studies on mice found a specific microbe-produced molecule, 4-ethylphenyl sulfate (4EPS), can induce anxious behavior. 4EPS is produced by gut microbes in mice and humans. Research suggests higher 4EPS levels may strongly be associated with anxiety levels. However,... Read More
