Rates of anxiety and depression in youth are substantial, causing a major unmet need for effective interventions. Participation in mindfulness interventions has been demonstrated to reduce anxiety and depressive symptoms among teenagers. Parents' participation in mindfulness interventions has also been shown to reduce their children's mental health symptoms. However, there is no available evidence regarding potential additional benefits for adolescents' mental health of having both the adolescent and their parent or caregiver learn and practice mindfulness simultaneously. This pilot intervention study aims to explore potential additive effects of parent/caregiver participation in a digitally-based, kindness-focused, coached mindfulness intervention program for adolescents that lasts 9 weeks. Participating parent/caregiver-child pairs (n = 30) will include one teenager between 12 and 17 years old with a current diagnosis of an anxiety or depressive disorder and one parent/caregiver. All adolescent participants will take part in the mindfulness intervention. Half of the parents/caregivers will be randomized to also take part in the mindfulness program. Outcomes will be compared between families in which only the teen participates in the mindfulness program and families in which the teen and parent/caregiver participate in the intervention. Adolescents and parents/caregivers will take part in evaluations before, in the middle of, and after the end of the mindfulness program, meaning that participation in the study will take a total of approximately 12 weeks. Pre, mid, and post evaluations will include online questionnaires. Pre and post evaluations will also include clinical interviews via phone or video conference. Evaluations will include measures of mental health diagnoses and symptoms, mood, interpersonal and family functioning, mindfulness, and perceptions of/satisfaction with the program. Participating adolescents and parents/caregivers will also fill out weekly brief questionnaires of anxiety and depressive symptoms. This study is a Phase 3 multi-site, randomized, evaluator-masked, study of endurance treadmill exercise on changes in the Movement Disorder Society-Unified Parkinson Disease Rating Scale (MDS-UPDRS) Part III score at 12 months among persons with early stage Parkinson disease. 370 participants will be randomly assigned to 2 groups: 1)60-65% HRmax or 2)80-85% HRmax 4 times per week. The primary objective is to test whether the progression of the signs of Parkinson's disease is attenuated at 12 months in among persons who have not initiated medication for Parkinson Disease (PD) when they perform high-intensity endurance treadmill exercise. Investigators from eight tertiary care, level 1 pediatric trauma centers have developed a protocol for the establishment of a formal, prospective multi-center adolescent clavicle registry, with designs for standardized radiographic assessment and the prospective collection of validated outcome measures and complications data, for all patients, ages 10-18, treated for clavicle shaft fractures, operatively and non-operatively. Eventually, the investigators would like to do comparative analysis for the operative and non-operative treatment arms, with additional sub-stratified analyses performed within these treatment arms by age and activity level. Among the primary goals of research projects stemming from the first arm of this registry, FACTS A, is to explore the hypothesis that non-operative treatment is associated with lower costs, greater safety, and equivalent or superior outcomes, compared with operative treatment, despite a national trend towards increasing surgical treatment. The second arm of the registry, FACTS B, will continue to investigate the same hypotheses, excluding cost outcomes, in patients only with completely displaced midshaft clavicle fractures. Read Less

The proposed of this randomized, double blinded, placebo-controlled study is to assess the effect of SAMe compared to placebo in patients with alcoholic cirrhosis Child Class A and B. The primary objective of the study is to test relationship between SAMe (S-adenosylmethionine) supplement on liver function. The hypothesis is that SAMe supplement will improve liver function in patients with alcoholic liver disease. The improvement in liver function will lead to the reduction in all-cause mortality in patients with alcoholic cirrhosis in those who receive SAMe supplement when compared to those receiving placebo. This study will use technology to deliver effective treatment for cognitive problems associated with TBI to Veterans at home, which may result in improved daily functioning and increased access to health care for the growing population of aging Veterans with history of TBI. The successful completion of this project may also increase older Veterans' ability to participate in research through increased understanding of the effect of in-home research opportunities on recruitment and retention. Additionally, the evidence gathered from this study may be used in future research studying home-based cognitive rehabilitation treatments for Veterans using telehealth technology. Read Less

The goal of this observational study is to determine if nerve transfer surgeries improve upper extremity function and quality of life in patients with a high level cervical spinal cord injury.
