California is currently home to 5595 active clinical trials, seeking participants for engagement in research studies. These trials take place at a variety of cities in the state, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego and Sacramento. Whether you're a healthy volunteer interested in paid medical research or someone seeking trials related to a specific condition, the state offers a diverse array of opportunities in your vicinity.
Modulation of SERCA2a of Intra-myocytic Calcium Trafficking in Heart Failure With Reduced Ejection Fraction
Recruiting
It is believed that targeted SERCA2a enzyme replacement in HFrEF patients will correct defective intracellular Ca2+ hemostasis, resulting in improved cardiac contractile function and energetics which will, in turn, translate to improved clinical outcomes. Additionally, it is hypothesized that correcting SERCA2a dysfunction will also improve coronary blood flow through correction of the impaired endothelium-dependent nitric oxide-mediated vasodilatation observed in heart failure.

Testing Multi-Level Remote Physical Activity Interventions in a National Sample of Older Women: The WHISH EnCore Trial
Recruiting
While older women are disproportionately affected by chronic diseases and conditions associated with aging, including both physical and cognitive impairments, that can be alleviated or delayed by regular physical activity, few physical activity programs have been developed specifically with their needs in mind. This research aims to evaluate, in insufficiently active older women from the national WHISH pragmatic trial, the effects of a technology-driven "citizen science" approach to environmenta... High Dose Buprenorphine (BUP) Induction in the Emergency Department (ED)
Recruiting
This project, involving two distinct clinical trials, tests whether induction to a higher than currently recommended buprenorphine (BUP) induction dose is safe and can improve the proportion of patients who engage in comprehensive addiction services within 7-day of induction. Trial 1 is a head-to-head comparison of the safety, tolerability and feasibility of high dose BUP induction (32 mg). The study involves two cohorts, (1) a 12mg cohort (standard) to determine baseline data and (2) a 32 mg (... Read More

Optimizing Engagement in Services for First-Episode Psychosis
Recruiting
This study will compare a 12-session behavioral activation (BA) intervention modified for first-episode psychosis (FEP) to usual community mental health care (i.e., treatment-as-usual; TAU) delivered over 6 months with a sample of Latinos with FEP and their families. Comparable family group sessions will also be delivered to participants in both conditions. It is expected that BA participants will show better engagement than TAU participants.

Brown Adipose Tissue Activity in Response to Semaglutide Administered to Obese Subjects.
Recruiting
Glucagon like peptide (GLP-1) agonists, such as liraglutide, exenatide, and semaglutide, have been increasingly used as a medication to address the current twin epidemics of diabetes and obesity. Their activities include increasing insulin production by pancreatic beta cells, improving insulin sensitivity in muscles and weight loss. The mechanisms underpinning the weight loss caused by GLP-1 agonists have not yet been fully elucidated, but brown adipose tissue (BAT) appears to play an important... Read More
