Impact of a Behavioral Tele-health Program on the Quality of Recovery for Patients Undergoing Total Joint Replacement Surgery
Recruiting
The quality of recovery after surgery is multi-factorial and includes both physical and mental factors. Persistent pain after surgery is a common problem after major surgery and can result in persistent opioid use. The investigators will be evaluating if the addition of a pain coach/councilor before and after surgery, through a tele health platform (LucidLane) can improve participant's recovery from major joint surgery.

Trauma Informed Guilt Reduction Therapy
Recruiting
The goal of this project is to determine if a 6-session psychotherapy intervention will help Veterans feel less deployment-related guilt and less distress related to their guilt. Half of the participants will receive the guilt focused intervention and half will receive a supportive intervention. A supplemental pilot study added in FY2021 will examine the intervention for pandemic-related guilt events.

Provider Recommendation and HPV Vaccination
Recruiting
In the United State, there are millions of US teens who are not vaccinated against the human papillomavirus (HPV) putting them at risk of getting HPV-related cancers. Although there are clinical guidelines recommending the HPV vaccine and interventions encouraging parents to vaccinate their children to prevent HPV-related cancers, the vaccination rate for teens remains low according to a 2018 national survey. Survey data shows that HPV vaccine complete series coverage for teens aged 13-15 years... Read More

International REgistry of COnservative or Radical Treatment of Localized Kidney Tumors
Recruiting
Partial nephrectomy (PN) is the standard treatment for localized renal masses and should be preferred in clinical T1 (<7 cm tumor diameter) renal tumors over radical nephrectomy (RN) whenever technically feasible. Nonetheless, indications, approaches, techniques for PN, and correct reporting of outcomes, are still a matter of great debate within the urology community. Concurrently, case-report series suggested that alternative strategies for the treatment of localized renal tumors (ablation tech... Read More

Perceptions of LARC Among AYA With Chronic Illness
Recruiting
The investigators aim to perform a qualitative study exploring attitudes and perceived barriers to Long Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC), both implants and IUDs, among adolescent and young adults (AYA) with chronic illness at CHLA. While the literature examining barriers to LARC uptake is growing, its focus has been on older women and women who are not living with chronic illness. There remains a significant gap in the understanding of: What adolescents and young adults from ethnically di... Read More

Study of TBX-3400 in Patients With Stage III and IV Melanoma Resistant or Refractory to Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors
Recruiting
This is a study of transfusion of TBX-3400 in patients with stage III and IV melanoma resistant or refractory to Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors. The patient's own blood cells are exposed to a protein that has been shown in the laboratory to result in anti-tumor activity. The study hypothesis is that TBX-3400 cells will enhance anti-tumor activity and improve the body's immune response.

Developing a Test for the Detection of Ovarian Cancer
Recruiting
The study aims to develop a test for early detection of ovarian cancer using DNA from a growth involving the ovary found in a washing of the uterus (womb), and proteins found in the blood. The samples of the wash and the blood will be taken before surgery. After surgery, doctors will determine whether the participant had ovarian cancer or a benign disease of the ovaries. The tests of the washings and the blood will be examined to see how much the participants with ovarian cancer can be separated... Read More
