Study of Low-intensity Focused Ultrasound Effects on Heat Evoked fMRI Signals
Recruiting
Study aims to examine the effects of noninvasive brain stimulation on brain signals. This insight may have potential clinical implications for addiction, pain, and mental health populations. Participants will receive MRI and CT imaging. Participants receive low-intensity focused ultrasound (LIFU) to temporarily change brain activity. Participants then receive fMRI scans to measure changes in both resting and heat evoked brain signaling using a quantitative sensory testing device. Heart rate, blo... Read More

Psychophysical Studies of Cancer Therapy Pain
Recruiting
The Aim of this Study is to examine the feasibility of using quantitative sensory testing procedures, widely applied to the experimental study of sensory processing in humans both with and without various pain syndromes, to now characterize the psychophysical properties of neuropathic pain that has developed as a consequence of cancer therapy. Skin punch biopsies will be performed in patients with chemotherapy-induced pain to determine whether the impairment of nerve function is due to actual re... Read More

State-dependent Interoception, Value-based Decision-making, and Introspection
Recruiting
Background:
Negative emotional states can affect a person s behavior as they make decisions. For example, hunger may make people more impatient; they may then make riskier choices. Other negative emotional states that can change behavior include stress, pain, and sadness. By learning more about how emotions affect thinking and behavior in healthy people, researchers hope to better understand how to identify and treat people with mental disorders.
Objective:
To learn how negative emotions affe... Read More

More Sleep: Pain Response to Longer Sleep
Recruiting
This study is being done to find out whether extending sleep for at least an hour per night, seven days a week, predicts a higher tolerance and a higher threshold for pain. This is a 21-day study. Participants will be asked to wear sleep- and heart- monitoring watches. Pressure pain and cold pain will be measured at study visits.

A Study to Learn About Whether BAY H006689 Causes an Allergic Reaction When Applied as a Topical Gel in Healthy Participants
Recruiting
Researchers are looking for a better way to treat muscle and joint pain. Researchers have seen that medicines which help reduce pain and inflammation could be safer when applied directly to the skin, called topical application, than when taken by mouth. However, recent studies have found that using these medicines on the skin can sometimes cause skin reactions such as redness, itching, or irritation in the area where the medicine is applied. However, reports of more serious side effects, affecti... Read More

Recruiting
Important information related to the visual assessment of patients, such as facial expressions, head and extremity movements, posture, and mobility are captured sporadically by overburdened nurses, or are not captured at all. Consequently, these important visual cues, although associated with critical indices such as physical functioning, pain, delirious state, and impending clinical deterioration, often cannot be incorporated into clinical status. The overall objectives of this project are to s... Read More
